Back in an M3

What's up guys? I haven't posted in a while but I figured I would update you all on what has been going on. I bought a 2013 M5 in August and last month I sold my 2009 E90 M3. After driving the M5 for a few months (4000 miles) I came to the realization that this car was not the car for me. Yesterday, I bought a 2013 E92 M3. I am very excited to be back in the M3.

For anyone out there trying to decide if the M3 or M5 is for you here is a little break down of how I felt.

The M5 is wickedly fast but much of that ability is wasted on the public roads, and this car is not something I would track. Not because it is too nice; rather it is too big. Don't get me wrong, it is very responsive for a big sedan but you can feel the heft and it is disconnected a bit from the road.

The M3 is really the perfect all around car. It isn't as fast as the M5 obviously but it has much more usable power. It is much more fun to drive on a daily basis and on the track. I am happy to be back in one.

Post some pics, and change your avatar...

Aren't you a little sad that you couldn't get an E90 anymore, or did you want to switch to a coupe?

You're lucky to have lived the E90 and now are in a E92! Congrats and welcome back!

I too was thinking of jumping ship to a M5 or M6, but came to the same realization as you.

Hey, any picts of the new ride? Or is it on order?

Welcome back. I think I might have come to the same conclusion as you... Hopefully you did okay on resale/trade of the M5. I hate hard lessons that are also costly. Been there.

Post a pic of your e92. Would also like to hear your impression of the F10 and e92 in comparison to the e90.

Enjoy.

I was initially tempted by the new M5 and M6 but after having the opportunity to check them out that temptation quickly subsided. The M3 is just more fun to drive, it's the pinnacle fun car in BMW's inventory. I hope you enjoy the e92 more than your old e90.

i really have never been into m5s. I like the way the V10 engine sounded in the last one. which made that one special.

but even normal 5 series i am not really into either. i would take a 335i over a 5 series anyday. when talking about non m cars.

Good to hear your opinion. I was always thinking that I would own an M5 one day, but they have just gotten so big. I don't understand why. Can you imagine if the F10 M5 was the size of the e39 M5, with all the lightweight materials, and power. i just don't understand the trend to larger and larger cars.

Congrats back in a M car and in an e92 M3 which it is Pure Driving Addiction...

Agree with all your comments that's why I am keeping the e92 M3 and just ordered a F10 M5 manual and it is Driving Jetliner...

Welcome back! I have had an E90 M3 for 4 years and wanted to get something new. I have driven many alternatives and it is simply impossible to beat the M3 for an all-around car that you can daily drive and take to the track. I ended up ordering a '13 e92 I'm doing the opposite color change - Alpine White now soon to be Lemans Blue...

Just to mention it, the dimensions of the e39 and e90 are very similar and even more inline with the f30.

So in a way you're describing the next M3.

I think the F10s biggest drawback is basing it off the 7 series.
