E90 M3 Lights What a Mess!!!

I think bmw have spoiled the E90 M3 saloon by making the lights just like the E92 M3 Coupe. I'm sure the E92 M3 Coupe lights look good to E92 M3 buyers but if you are going to buy an E90 M3 saloon then you want it to look more like the E90 saloon. I am so pissed off with these spyshots showing the E90 M3 saloon looking like the E92 M3 coupe. In my opinion the E90 looks much more aggressive than the E92 and if they carried this theme onto the E90 M3 saloon they would have made one monstrous looking car. Ohhhhhh how sad!!!

I hope these spyshots are not the final version.

I too prefer the E90 headlights. I'm still withholding complete judgement on the new front styling until I see the the real thing side-by-side with a non-M3 E90. It seems to me that the M3 has more of a sloping hood or perhaps it appears that way because the sculpted hood lines travel forward to the kidney grilles instead of the headlights.

Why have a different front for each model though, that'd be a bit confusing. The E36 didn't have a different front end for each variant, although the Coupe was identical upfront, but you get my point.

BMW most likely did it for money reasons not for styling reasons. Think about it, if they used the E90 front end that would mean they would need a new hood, a new front bumper and new fenders. In this case they probably only needed new fenders, and who knows, maybe they were even able to carry that over aswell. They save millions by doing it this way. Why would they spend all that money to tool up for the extra parts. Its just smart business to do it this way. Espcially since the M3 doesnt sell anywhere near the volume the regular 3's do. So the would have to sell alot more (or charge alot more) to see a return on their investment.

I'm not quite sure I follow this logic. The E90 M3 does use a different hood. The fenders are likely different as are the headlights. It would be more cost effective to retain more similar parts.

I feel that the reason why BMW did this was to differentiate the E90 M3 from the E90 non-M3s.

they had to make it somehwat different. or else u cudnt tell the difference that much.

when i see an e46 330 and and e46 m3, i sure as hell know the difference instantly, but a lot of ppl dont at first.
this difference will be very noticeable to all

BMW follows its tradition as E36 M3 sedan/coupe by sharing the same front end. The hood line, kidney grill, and headlight angle (both front and side) made the entire E92 M3 front end look even better on the E90 M3 sedan.

+1. I always like the e90 headlights, especially the Euro version. Putting the e92 headlights on a e90 really ruins the sedan front ends.

How do you know the E90 M3 uses a different hood? Do you have the surface data in your hands to compare? There is also no way in hell the headlights are unique or the front bumper. They didnt use unique headlamps for the E92 M3, they are carry over coupe headlamps so why would BMW invest in all the development costs for a unique headlamp just for the E90 M3. It is more cost effect this way and I could bet my life on it. At the bare minimum it is one less fascia they have to tool/design, but I would be seriously surprised if the hood wasnt common aswell. I work in design and this all too common procedure.

More than anything, I would think this is a sign that BMW is about to update the front of the non-M E90.

Whatever the case may be, BMW is definitely confused. The current 3 series coupe shares the front kidneys of the 5 series saloon. The current 3 series saloon shares the kidneys of the current 6 series coupe. Shouldn't this all be vice versa? I also don't like the direction they are going with the badging not matching the litre of the engine, but that's just my OCD kicking in.

I also think they should have stuck with calling the coupe, 4 series. Odd numbers equals saloons, evens equals coupes. Make sense to me, especially with the overall size difference between the coupe and saloon.

They really need to get one person in charge of marketing/design and make up their minds on what direction they want to go before this gets even more convoluted.

The badges haven't been matching the engines for about the last 20 years in some cases, it isn't recent.

Everyone has his own opinion on the front of this car, but it's really funny that the ONLY UGLY part of the e92 will end up on the e90 M3. What a shame.

Well i think it's a big improvement on the E90 front! Plus that coming from someone who has eyebrows in their headlights to make it look more like an E92, come on!

You're entitled to your opinion, but don't flame me for eyelids or whatever, that I DON'T HAVE. Trust me I love the e90's headlights, and I have euros! I would do nothing to make them look like the e92's. And let me say that I love the e92's profile and rear, and the front looks pretty good except for a couple details and those awful headlights. I especially like the e92 with the M-tech kit.
