Just received a recall

That connectors for the side airbags and seatbelt pretensioners could be 'too big'. I was under the impression M3s were not affected, due to different seats. Or maybe we got them because M3s are considered 3 series? I'm not going to worry unless I get an airbag error on the dash, but I'm sure next service visit dealer will mess with my car.

It says it takes 2 hours to 'correct'. What the hell are dealers going to do to our cars to take 2 freaking hours??? And aren't they supposed to check conectors first? If connectors are tight, no need to do anything, no? .

FInal question: Do any of you have had an airbag warning sign on your dash? Just curious. Take care.

So what did that guy get in the mail then?

Or do you guys mean that If I don't have any dash warnings etc.. And I do receive a recall, I can just ignore it?

Recall campaing No. 09V-257: Side Air Bag/Safety Belt Tensioner Wiring. Recall letter doesn't list VIN range, but includes 'certain 2008 1 and 3 series vehicles', obviously including M3s, since I got one. If affected, you should get one at any moment.

I'll ignore it myself unless I get a dash light, but next time I take my car in, dealer will want to perform it. Hope to learn by then what exactly they're doing, and if M3s are really affected. I don't want my car taken apart for something that might be perfectly fine. I want to know what connectors are the culprit and I'll check them myself. They should be under the seat, and should be able to reach them by lifting the seat all the way up. The good thing is a recall is for the life of the car, so if a future owner wants to perform it they can do it at any time. I had a very bad experience with a similar problem, which required the seat cover to be removed; car was never the same. And after months of fighting for a new seat, the leather was completely different. I haven't heard of a single M3 owner complaining of an airbag dash light, so I won't let dealer mess with my car unless I have reason to believe it's really affected, and others report no problems with the 'procedure' (2 hours worth). Good day folks.
