Well hmm...where to begin...

I'm guessing the test you are referring to is the Motor Trend comparo where the GTR is up against 11 other cars. The car was actually 0.2 seconds slower than the 2013 model, not 2 seconds. For comparison purposes the M3 is about 6 seconds slower on the same track (Laguna Seca).

The 2014 models have been known to pull timing and boost when used with lower quality 91 octane gas in Cali. Mine is a 2011 with tune and midpipe making over 600 hp and I've never had any problems on 93 octane.

I'm assuming you must know the difference between pulling boost and having no boost. It's the same thing all modern cars, the M3 included, do to prevent knock and detonation by pulling back engine power and timing. Without any boost, the GTR would probably make similar power to a naturally aspirated engine of the same size, such as the M3's small V8, losing much of its torque in the process. Personally, I've never heard of a GTR completely losing boost. Anything is possible, though.

And no, I would definitely not agree that the GTR has no soul. That's just something that people that don't have one say to make themselves feel better.

Once that engine even very sporadically cannot maintain its boost it is no more than a 3.8L naturally aspirated V6 no better than a Ford Taurus.
But yeah with boost it is a monster. Would you agree though with sayings that it has no soul ?

Went for the first drive back from vacation after being in a Ford Explorer rental for 4 days. It's amazing how after not driving it that long it feels like the first time all over again. Even the stock exhaust and engine induction sounded louder to me today compared to before I left and it was amazing...put a huge grin on my face hitting the gas pedal.

I also came home to my winter wheels/tires delivered on my front porch courtesy of another forum member. They look great and can't wait to put them on in a couple months!

2017 BMW M3  [8.50]
2013 BMW M3  [10.00]
3 kids for a ride. Picked up my daughter from a friends house with my two sons in the car. Needless to say I had to behave but did manage to chirp the tires in second gear with traction control on from a standing start on a nice open empty road. The kids enjoyed as well.

drive too fast ;)

I recently got my new m3. I travel all week long and the weekend is my time to relax. By that I mean drive. Raced around, great weather with the top down, and had some fellow m3 drivers drive up and Rev high in the underpasses. Let me tell you...what a sound. You can't help but laugh at the sheer music attained by echoing v8 german built last of their kind engines.
Looking forward to the weekend chaps! Be safe out there.

How different is the ride (freeway, city) and especially when you take harder corners from "non-spacer"? And rubbing the wheel well at all? Thank you.

Doesn't ride different. Just wider track. No rubs, this is most popular set up for competition M3's. I feel the tail whip out a lot easier, maybe its because of the full exhaust though. Definitely does feel like it revs a lot more freely. Placebo possibly.

I don't think so. A naturally aspirated engine has higher static compression ratio than a boosted one. Without boost the GT-R static CR of 9.0:1 the M3 being 12.0:1. The air-fuel mix charge would be 4.275 liter at 1 atm for the GT-R and 4.364 liter at 1 atm for the M3 but thermal efficiency at 9.0 psi for the internal combustion engine would be 0.464 and at 12.0 psi 0.52. So combining charge and efficiency the GT-R would make around 359 HP roughly.

Also you cannot blame it entirely on the california 91 octane fuel because several other cars on that racetrack were also boosted and none suffered as much loss of nominal power than the GT-R. It seems rather that the tuning on these engine is at the absolute limit with no margin. After all it is only a small 3.8l V6. Some other guys also mentionned GT-R loosing boost during portion of races.

"no soul" would be too strong, I agree, but less than NA engines like the GT3 or the M3. That is the nature of turbo engines. They don't pull the same all the way to redline. The M3 does. The GT-R torque starts to fall at 4000 RPM on a 2008 GT-R and at 5000 on a 2012 GT-R. The M3 Torque does not fall all the way to 8300 RPM. That range of usability of the engine is what gives it more soul. Now if only Gintanni or some other shop came up with a Turbo for the V8 in the M3, I don't need 10-12 PSI like in the GT-R but just 6-8 PSI and it would be a game changer.

Wow! You have an E90 in Estoril Blue, my 1st M3's color. Still one of the best blues BMW has ever made,

Btw, I see that u live in SOCAL, what's the cost of power coating a wheel? And who do u recommend? Contemplating between power coat or buy a set of black ZCP wheel?
