Pics+vids, up and down Lake Mountain

Did a run up and down a twisty today after it had rained.

I left DSC on, light was flashing a lot, would have been very difficult without it.

When I got to the top I had a look at the brakes, they were red hot (you know that purple look during daylight) but I felt no change in pedal feel.

I did not inspect the brakes after the run back down the mountain, that would have been a pretty big workout for them but again, I felt no difference in brake feel.

Still working on the camera mount, it made some unwanted noise today.

Liked your videos. The looks fantastic in the pictures. The dirt makes it more aggressive. A picture from the front also would have been good.

I made the mount using:

A piece of 18mm square aluminium rod
A door stop plugging one end
A chair leg plug at the other end
A tripod mount attached with a bolt and washer
Two U-bolts
Four wing nuts
Some duct tape
Aquarium tubing

Hopefully the pictures show how I made it. Just a bit of drilling and measuring here and there, didn't take long and cost around $25 (including $18 for the tripod mount I think). Aquarium tube around the U-bolts and duct tape around the rod protect the headrest bars from scratches.

As you can hear, it still needs work and I seriously hope I don't go sideways into a tree, I don't think that door stop would stop the rod penetrating my skull!!!

I noticed you stayed in one gear most of the time, was it 3rd or 4th?

Great work, the engine sounded a bit on the angry side.

3rd gear pretty much all the time, down to around 70kph for tight turns I think, 120kph most of the time, probably fastest around 150-160 in 4th......Maybe more, wasn't really watching speedo.

It was wet so I used bugger all revs, probably highest I got to was 6500. Thats the crazy thing about this engine....2000rpm left!!!

Hopefully the video demonstrates the broad range of useable torque in this engine.

Disclaimer: Thats a complete lie, the car never went above 100kph.

Besides the rattle, it seems to work very well. I would have thought that the picture might have been a little shakey with the camera mounted to the seat, but yours seems very steady indeed. Have you taken it over rough roads?
