AiM Solo DL users - please help!

I am installing my AiM Solo DL and I thought I tapped the right wires (yellow/red and yellow/brown twisted together) under the dash. However, when I turn the car on and setup a custom page on the Solo to show Gear and RPM it shows nothing.

I assume that means it isn't getting data? Or is there a step I'm missing?

I have already decided to splice in the ECU panel since I did some damage to the wires under the dash and don't want to push my luck.

I've been using quick splices for 18-22 gauge wire and usually they work well but in this case they are giving me fits. Am I missing something? Wrong gauge?

Thanks.

Are you sure you have the correct AIM wires tied into the CAN bus?

I had a bad connection and had the same (--).

It doesn't know the gear. You have to calibrate it, but it should show RPMs.

Also, did you config the AIM for your E46? I believe it's BMW_mini

I wired it per the instruction can+ to yellow/red and can- to yellow/brown.

I'm thinking the splice didn't take.

I ended up spending the $50 to get the PnP harness to avoid issues.

I just wanted to confirm I hadn't configured it wrong.

Do you have the right ECU configuration on the Solo?

Not sure. Probably should have read the instructions before panicking. I didn't do anything in the laptop software yet. I will try that.

Yeah you have to config the solo from the software for your ECU.

Also, you'll need to set the start/stop pints for the tracks that you plan to run. Eventually.

I apparently need to RTFM a bit

The start/stop points are set in the race studio software, right?

PM Richard at M-world for start/stop info. I believe you can set at track or in RaceStudio if you've driven at track. I suspect there is a way to transfer maps from other guys that you drive with that own Solo's.

There is a couple ways to set start-stop points.

1. If your track already exists in AiM's database, there is no need to do anything. Solo DL is preloaded with over 100 tracks in the USA.

2. If you have a track map file from others, you can upload it in GPS Manager.

3. If the track does not exist in the database AND you don't have a map file, here is what you do.

Q: If my track is not in the GPS Manager database, what should I do?
A: Check with the race track's safety personnel to make sure that you can safely access the start/finish line. Next, bring your Solo/Solo DL to the desired start/finish line. Then, allow the unit to discover GPS signal. Scroll through the main display screen to "OK: Start GPS Marker." Finally, press OK.
