How's carbon leather made??

I love the Carbon Leather trim in my new car. I'm actually blown away by it, maybe the biggest surprise of the car (until I get it broken in anyway ).

Does anyone know how it's produced. I don't want to sound stupid, but is it actually leather? is it embossed or woven strips? Anyone have an idea of how its produced?

I've searched but haven't found anything

I'm pretty sure it's just plain old leather embossed with the pattern of carbon fiber. It certainly behaves like leather to touch and care (cleaning/treating).

I'm a bit of a carbon fiber junkie but I don't like it on interiors due to the glossy finish typically applied. So Carbon Leather was a perfect compromise. I'm considering getting my center console wrapped in some vinyl that matches Carbon Leather almost 100%.

Guess I'm not alone in my appreciation or confusion. Thanks for the guesses, though.

I actually thought it was vinyl, it feels too synthetic to my hands to be real leather. But I may be wrong

Wrong. Strips of carbon fiber without any resin clear coat. I believe the carbon "leather" part of the description comes because the trim is the carbon weave AND strips of leather in the trim. If you look you will see that the trim is not only carbon, but leather as well.

The stuff isn't leather woven like carbon... were do you guys get your info anyway.

If it was real carbon fiber, wouldn't BMW be charging us alot more for this trim than Sycamore or Aluminium?

Why do people think it's anything but leather with a carbon-like pattern in it?

As opposed to what? The stuff in that link is probably vinyl at best and looks nothing like the trim in our cars aside from the pattern.

In proper lighting it looks like un finished carbon fiber, I agree. When I saw it first in low light, I thougt it was imbossed leather.
