I know what you are talking about. Everybody who has seen the MR in person said it looks amazing, but the polls in this forums show its inpopularity. I am thinking of getting a MR M3, but am confused about its looks. I would like it if its a bright red, not dark as it is in the pictures.

It's also tough to tell it's a metallic in the photos.

So is Sp Gr. You can tell in person, but to me the color is just too dull.

I have not seen MR in real life, but I am looking at an interesting photo of a MR M3 next to a red R8 and GT3.

The R8 and GT3 are both classic, bright reds, the M3 on the other hand looks duller and darker in comparison.

I suspect in the sun or in bright light it looks awesome, but it needs light on it, on overcast day I imagine it will look pretty dull.

Like in Sweden. Back and back side windows can be 100% though.

IMO, a complete black out tint on AW would look quite cheesy. A medium tint looks classy and blends in quite nicely with the CF roof. My personal choice of color combination

Remember that all windscreens from BMW are slightly tinted as standard compared to the windscreens from Volvo or whatever other manufacturer.

I don't know why, but all of these pictures makes the windows look like on a limousine (mirror glass or what it's called). It is possible to see through the windows with the individual tint option, although at nights it's next to impossible. I've actually been a little afraid while driving my M3 at nights because of my problems telling if it's a police car behind me or not (if their out of sight from my side mirrors). But as soon as you hear that engine rooaaaaring at about 2k RPM you don't care... I'll just say that I feared for my life, thought I was being followed and had to make sure. haha

Tinted glass is awful and adequate only for participants of Pimp my Car show.

I say tint it. Probably a 35%?

Some don't like it since it's not too dark.

Tint

I've had mine tinted and here is a post tint picture (plenty of pre tint pics in my garage). It is a metalic tint on the sides and non-metalic on the back (to avoid problems with the various antenae in the top of the window). No problems with comfort access, GPS, radio (AM/FM), or TV to report.

Thanks for the pic GeriFix.

I was under the impression that metallic tint was for black cars? It does not look out of place on your machine at all, in fact I cant even tell its metallic.

Are you happy with the result? Is that the darkest legal tint we have down here?

Sorry for all the questions

Hi Oz,
The metallic thing is just related to the nature of the pigment. Supposedly, metallic tints will not fade, as dyes do. The "comfort windscreen" option is a metallic layer in the glass laminate.

This is not the darkest legal tint available, but most of those are dyes. This tint has greater heat rejection than a dyed tint, and that is what I was really after.

I'm pretty happy with it, but it is difficult to get the tint layer to stick to the large dot matrix area at the top of the rear window and it is still not uniform there, but it is only 3 days since it was done and it is improving each day.

Hi Oz,

The tint BMW provided me from factory looks great IMO. As with SSII, photos can be very deceiving. If you want to look at the car, drop me a message and we can organise a catch up.

Cheers

Probably a silly question but I thought the "sun protection glass" was just to stop the car getting too hot in the sun..... there is a seperate option called privacy glass that gives the rear and side tint.....

I'm days away from confirming my spec so just wanted confirmation I'm ordering the right thing!

Hmm, I just told the dealer to give me a medium tint and didn't specify anything other than that. Do you think that will affect my CA?

Maybe I'll give them a call and request that they use ceramic just to make sure. The only reason I am getting it from my dealer is because I am picking up the car in another state and then hitting the road immediately. Also, California doesn't allow the front windows to be tinted. Thanks for the suggestion, i'll search the forums and check out some of the issues.
