I bet my local dealer will probably beat all those mark-ups.......

Let's see........

$76k for 335i cabrio.....$119k for a M5........$146k for a M6..........

My guess...........$100k for a M3..........

It's sick.....but 9/10 people wouldn't know the difference between a 325i and a M3

I doubt that any of the dealers are getting their markup prices. I see markup price on all stickers at every dealership here in the SF bay area. Even cars that can be negociated to invoice price! But it does not measn they are selling them at their mark up prices. I talked to 3 different BMW dealer and they all agreed to sell me an M3 at MSRP but I'd have to order them as all their stocks are all spoken for right now.

I suggest waiting for around 3-4 months.. the price will be back for normal again..
this is just about trend...same goes as the 335, when it was first release, the dealer want the MSRP price ,but look now the price is back to normal..
If you got money and like trend or whatever, I said go for it..

Even if I was a multi millionaire, I don't think I would ever spend more than $80-90K on something that depreciates the second you drive off the lot...that being said $90K for an M3 is ridiculous IMO. I mean yes, it's a great car, but so is my 335 that cost $50K. If there were no speed limit laws in this country, I'd consider it...but what am I going to do with a car that has that much horsepower that I wouldn't be able to use...it's more for show if you ask me.

Seriously. They even have markups on 2007 Honda and Toyota models...and we're in 2008!!

I guess whatever floats your boat. If you have the money and the will to blow $90k+ on an M3, then by alls means do so.

Next time you're at a dealership and there's a sticker that says "market adjustment: + $xxxxx", go find the GSM and tell him that since we're in a recession, he should adjust the prices to about $20k BELOW invoice.

My co-worker picked up his new M3 last Friday and had been enjoying it over the weekend. But yesterday morning & afternoon and this morning, he said he's sick the car because it sucks driving in downtown LA traffic. Between the gear shifting (1st, neutral, 1st, neutral, etc) and the people looking at him, it's more a PITA for him to drive into work so he said he might keep it as his weekend fun car and continue to drive his Range Rover into work.

Speaking of which, I posted this on M3post about my friend who was looking into buying a M3 this weekend:

But even with a reduced (down to) $2500 markup for him, and after running the numbers with the current MF and residual on the M3, he then looked into the M6.

Bottom line, same OTD fees, he picked up the M6 for $200/month cheaper than he would have gotten the $25k cheaper M3 for

This is funny. Was at the dealer yesterday looking at M3's just wanted to see on in real life. Dealer got 4, 2 sedans and 2 coupes. 1 coupe was destined for the showroom and the other three were available for sticker price. Not one was presold. they do have orders but their first run of cars were not the presold ones. Seems strange to me. Had I wanted I could have walked out with the couple yesterday for sticker, $70k.

Same as at my dealer. #1 on the list was actually the #4 car to the dealer (and it had not arrived yet). They get their showroom cars first. In my case, one E90 and two E92s.

I saw one at Crevier in Irvine. $70k + $15k dealer markup! Crap! For just the mark-up I could get a nice Smart!

Mark-ups make sense right now - each dealer has only a couple of these cars and that's all they're getting for a month or so. If these cars were all listed at sticker then they'd be gone now. As others pointed out, they want to sell the car, but since there's a lot of interest now and they still don't have a lot of them, so dealers have nothing to lose by marking it up now and seeing if anyone bites. If not, they can just lower the price in the next couple weeks and will still move the cars easily before the next batch rolls in.

Also, you have to consider the local markets - LA is expensive relative to the rest of the country and people do have more money (at least the people that can afford M3's do). I noticed that the dealerships with no mark-up haven't been in CA.

I went to the dealership in Glendale, CA and they wanted $20k over. Alexander first said $20k then they were willing to take $10k the next day. This number will go down the more people like me walk into dealerships and walk out laughing. 90k is def getting close to Carrera territory (though, fyi to those that have mentioned it, I was just looking at the 4S the other day and they're hard to find for less than $105k).

So the car w/ the options retails at $70,000.

The mark up is $30,000?

That's 42% the COST OF THE CAR just in mark-up!!

WTF???

Dealership: "...And here is out brand new M3. It was just released last week"

Customer: "Really, how much is this car going for?"

Dealership: "Well, it retails at $70k but we're selling it for $100k because of the high demand"

Customer: "100k? *thinking to themselves 'WTF?* ohh. Well.. hmm. Okay"

Dealership: "So, what do you think?"

Customer: "Uhm, how about the M5 or the M6? I'll pass on the M3. Matter of fact, do you know where the nearest Porsche dealership is?"
