This entire debate is exactly why many think we will see an M-version of the upcoming 1-series coupe. This will be the "entry" M car and will certainly outperform a 335i out of the box. I think the 135i is a dual purpose car for BMW, in which it will be both their "entry" BMW car, and also their smallest, most sporting model for the enthusiasts. Since the M3 will be pushing 65-70K with options, BMW understands they need an M-car in the 45-50K range.

Hell, the 135i is going to easily outperform the 335i, and with added features such as 6 piston front brake calipers, and other trick equipment, if you can't afford an M3, the 335i won't even be on the radar.

The most logical choice for anyone who doesn't want to spend 65K on a new M3, is to simply wait a year or so and buy a used one for about the same price of a brand new, decked out 335i. Let somebody else take the initial depreciation hit, and handle any new car recalls or service issues related to production, and then you get the added benefit of the CPO warranty which is actually better than the original new warranty. Of course that would make too much sense I suppose.

I will simply continue to enjoy my E46 M3 until the right used E92 M3 comes along, just as I enjoyed my E36 M3 previous to my E46. Patience really does have its benefits.

I do hope they have a M version of 1 series. That will be my foremost choice because of the weight and pricing. I doubt BMW will reuse M1 badge because it's already taken by a previous model.

As for getting a one year old M3 it might be hard. I remember looking at the e46 m3 a year after it came out and prices weren't dropping. You have to realize a lot of buyers are seeking the same opportunity and this demand drives the price back up. To take full advantage of a depreciated M3 you might have to wait 2-3 years.

I despise threads like this. I can never understand why BMW owners/enthusiasts try to rip on each others cars like this. It makes us look like bickering children to the many guests who browse through our forum. It embarrasses me to be a member here sometimes.

I have a 335i, and I'm on a waiting list for an M3. I will enjoy both cars. I just wish the bs comparisons would stop.

what's funny too, is that the ricers over on the E90 side are already starting to talk about fake carbon fiber roofs.....

just because it's a BMW doesn't mean it can't be riced out by a tasteless owner

Wow, got to love the BMW community. I would expect this from the 350Z Forum but not from our people. We need to be a little more like the Jeep forum and do the so called wave. Anyhow, we have both a 335 E90 and E46 M3. M3 is more visceral, steering response and feel of the road are more intuitive. You have to work to make the M go, but once it goes its pretty amazing. The 335 is easy to go fast, just stomp and hold the steering wheel with both hands. It gets a little winded on the top, but is a charmer in its own right. 335i is a comfort cruiser that turns bad ass with the stomp of the foot. Thats my take. No loosers here, for goodness sake theyre BMW's not Fords. No offense to anyone with Blue oval products, I have had my fair share in the past.

that is well beyond tastelessness. how stupid can one be exactly and still be able to afford a $45k-$50k car? actually, never mind, there is data out there showing intelligence and income are not necessarily correlated...

Vorsteiner will likely make a real CF option.

Is that rice?

Depends; Faster, sure. Better handling, possibly. Retaining the reliability, resale potential, and warranty, probably not. But this is true of any car.
Succinct and to the point, that pretty much sums it all up. The 335 has a solid place in the BMW line up and is a great performer and nicely priced -- but it will always be second to the design, engineering and true sports car nature of the M3.

That's hilarious, given that the CFRP roof already looks completely ridiculous on the M3.

lets not make generalizations here. ive seen plenty of poorly modded m3s.

the only difference between "e90" owners and m3 owners is budget.

Why would I want to do that? I like the idea of having a CF roof, I just don't see why it needs to look so stupid.

I had to go to dictionary.com to figure out what a Luddite is--English is not my first language. I am glad you will not be destroying your new M3 thinking it gets in the way of jobs.

Remember if you sell a 67K MSRP M3 you get a depreciated 67k MSRP price, but if you sell a 42k 335i with 10k in mods you get a depreciated 42K MSRP price!

if you consider the wasted money on mods, you probably could be driving around in the M3 for a surprisingly similar cost of ownership

Some E46 M3 owners have aftermarket CF roofs too are they still "rice".And I don't think anyone is going to install "Fake" CF roofs maybe aftermarket CF Vorsteiner roofs like the E46 M3's with the "Fake CSL mods" did. People that bring the whole "The M3 is worth more down the line"card are retarded since when is any car a good Investment? If your into saving every penny buy a used E36 and invest the rest. This generation the 3 series and M3 are pretty close inregards to performance no matter how you wish it was otherwise folks.I'm sticking too the 335 for the turbo motor not because I can't afford an M3 I've been there and done that I just don't think the M3 is that much better period I rather have a 997 or CSL something that the "Regular" M3 wish it was.But M3 owners really need to stop over hyping them selves cause they're probably gonna be dissapointed when a slightly modded 335i rapes them somewhere and the only special they're gonna feel is special ED.I say this mainly becuase they're already making a CSL E92 M3 if the M3 was sooo much better they wouldn't need one obviously.

Uhhh, no.

I chose the 335i over the E55 and E63 AMG as a drivers car, bang for the buck, probably best all around in the world, an opinion shared by many professional reviewers.

If the M3 were, or turns out to be, everything it should be, I'll put my order in that day.

i didnt mean it like that. I meant it in the way that owning a "regular" e90 doesnt make you a ricer, that theres no inherent differences between a "regular" e90 driver and an m3 driver, that "taste" isnt a prereq for owning an m3.
