oil consumption due to.....

Greetings from an oil burner. I was watching some vids from Hrspwr Freaks where a 1k HP S54 was built. The engine builder commented that BMW engines he has seen show oil consumption becauuse BMW doesn't use a Torque Plate when honing the cylinders.

Just wanted to throw this out.

High performance engines burn oil for a variety of reasons, but the main ones are loose tolerances in the engine and low tension rings.

No torque plate infers that the cylinders are out of round and that BMW cheaped out on their most important engines. Like I said above. The engine builder is an idiot.

But not every M3 burns oil. I have yet to top my oil off after 28,000 miles (5-7500 mile oil changes/oil level sensor is fine). I think it is a hit or miss with these engines. That engine builder looks highly skilled and knows his machinery but I think he is making a strong assumption towards a company that makes some of the best engines in the world. And stating "best engines" is not an assumption or opinion.
