Performance Friction Direct Drive Rotors 2-piece Rotors

Description

The Performance Friction 357.062.63 & 357.062.64 V3 Disc Rotor is a direct 2-piece rotor replacement for the BMW E9x M3 front brakes. They are designed to be used with the factory caliper, with no other parts or modifications necessary. Kit includes everything needed (rotor, hat and hardware) for a single rotor replacement. Priced per rotor.

The V3 design features an all new retention ring that holds the hat and disc together without the need for traditional nuts & bolts. The simplified design also helps save weight and makes rotor replacement a breeze. The 2-turn retaining ring is held in a groove in the hat that overlaps the rotor flanges, effectively locking the rotor to the hat.

2-piece rotors offer better cooling over a one-piece design. Performance Friction's full floating Direct Drive attachment system allows the brake disc to naturally expand/contract both radially and axially without being constrained by the hub. This helps eliminate rotor warping, vibrations and pulsations. Due to the high quality of Performance Friction's design and manufacturing, the Direct Drive rotors are completely silent and rattle-free - a trait not typically found in many competitor's 2-piece designs. The hat assembly is completely reusable - no need to buy the entire rotor again! And, because the rotor is designed for use with the factory caliper, you can still use your favorite Performance Friction brake pads!

Note: Performance Friction Brake Pads are recommended for this set up. All other pads must be checked for proper rotor clearance at installation and periodically as they wear. Some brands of brake pads will fit at time of installation, but may contact the rotor-hat during use which can lead to brake failure.
Technical Information

• V3 style mounting hardware
• High Carbon Alloy with copper and molybdenum for high temperature strength and durability.
• Vanes turned OD and ID for balance to reduce thermal warping and vibration.
• Runout less than .001 inches, reducing Pulsation and Vibration.
• Thickness variation less than .0003 inches reduces Pulsation and Vibration.
• 47 or more vanes for superior thermal capacity.
• Aircraft quality heat treated for micro structure alignment and durability.
• Surface finish less than .7 microns.
• 100% measured and inspected to meet tolerance specifications.

Any problems running these with Pagid RS19s or BMW M Performance Sport Pads (which would have the same dimensions as OE pads)? Thanks.

No, not at all. These have OE dimensions and is the best upgrade you can do shy of a full BBK.

Thanks. Just concerned due to what BimmerWorld has said regarding these discs:

"Some aftermarket and OEM brake pad manufacturers have a taller profile than Performance Friction pads. We have noticed these types of taller profile pads becoming too close to the bottom of the friction area of the disc and can create a stress riser causing premature fatigue of the disc. When cold, there must be 2mm of space between the bottom of the pad and the bottom of the friction disc where the fingers meet the friction area. As the rotor gets hot and expands this space will diminish. To reduce the chance of this issue arising, we suggest only using Performance Friction pads with Direct Drive rotors."

That is certainly a possibility and I have seen that with even BBK's with pads other than the manufacturers causing issues.

The best way is to compare the pad shape with PFC to make sure they are the same and not taller.

Many thanks for all your replies. Hopefully, this is the last query:

If you look at the areas that I've circled in red - am I right in thinking that rust would form around those areas, which would then press unevenly against the surfaces of the hat and retaining ring, resulting in runout? Much appreciated.

That has not been our experience with these rotors. No excessive runout nor rust has been observed.

Just wanted to everyone know...I bought these from HP Autowerks...and here is my feed back.

- HP Autowerks....OUTSTANDING customer service.
- along with PFC 08 pads....great performance....I barely have to touch the pedal to get more stopping force than my PS2s can deliver .

I am seriously considering these rotors with a set of PFC 08's or RS19's over a stoptech front bbk.

Any feedback on track use?

I've used this set up on my otherwise stock car at Barber Motorsports Park.

Regular brake lines...regular brake fluid....PS2's.

Barely have to step on the peddle to achieve threshold braking.

One thing that was annoying was that it took a couple of sessions at speed to properly bed in the pads on this set of rotors....a lot of shuddering before things smoothed out.

Consistently running in the 1:50's.

Best time was a 1:51.

They are the same. The OE calipers and mounts limits adding any thickness to these rotors.

Has anyone ran these with bone stock pads? I'm looking to increase the feel a little (not sure if changing rotors alone does that), and losing weight would be a nice bonus. Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I'll stick to OEM as they are quite a bit cheaper. Was hoping for maybe a little improvement.

No, by changing the rotors you will not likely improve the feel of the brake pedal. However, you can install caliper bushings, that will remove the flex from the OE rubber ones and will give you a better pedal feel.

PFC does not offer a rear kit. However, there is an option here:

Probably the wrong forum, but are there any 2-piece rotors available for the E8X/135i platform, besides those from RacingBrakes and ECSTuning?
