Installed Performance wheel now with errors

I installed the Performance wheel today-Looks sharp. I followed the instructions in the DIY and they were pretty straightforward. Removing the connectors was difficult but doable. I tapped the power from the cigarette lighter.
After hooking the battery back up-I started getting
EDC failure
Airbag failure
The wipers ran nonstop.
However, the wheel's display was working.
I turned off everything, rechecked all the wires and found
one plug that attached to the Coil spring cartridge to be broken. That plug is responsible for running the power to the buttons on the wheel (M, Volume etc). It had a side that had looked liked it got crushed. I have no idea how the plug got this way. I did use a screwdriver to pull the plug out and that may have caused this.
I have now given up and scheduled an appt with my local dealer to get this fixed.
I've now learnt my lesson- I won't be meddling with the electronics in this car again.
