At least it happened when they were worn out...

So I got about 10 feet our of my garage yesterday and thought to myself, "The car feels off and it's pulling to the right. Hmmmm..." As I'm pulling over to have a look the low tire message popped up. I pull back into the garage and:

Figures. Looks patchable.

Hmm, bigger than I thought. Maybe it won't be patchable.

Yep, I'm screwed (or nailed, lol). Roughly 3" long and that lovely rifling really did a number on the rubber. I couldn't put air in as fast as it was leaking out. Good thing I had to put my winters on before the 15th anyway. Turns out it's NOT patchable.

One of my neighbors was building an overhang for his driveway and either swept his crap into the street or was careless while hangling his nails.

I talked to some local tire shops and none will patch it because there's not quite enough rubber left. They've only been on the car since mid May. Fuuuuuuck. Guess it's time to find something that wears a bit longer. I'd consider UHPAS if I could find some in the right size. I may just do some Conti DW this go round.

Suggestions?

^^^No shit. That's crazy. It's not that it's not patchable, none of the shops here will do it. It's German law apparently.

Ze Germans will not patch it because of the speed rating and remaining tread depth.

After some research, I chose the Continental Extreme Contact DWS for my 330. I've got about 5k miles on them and I like what I feel and see, so far. They are wearing well plus they are a lot less noisy than my old Michelins.

I got to drive on DWs when I was at the BMW Performance Center the other week. I was really impressed considering how much cheaper they are than PS2s. I just put a set of Vredsteins on my car. Slightly higher road noise than the PS2s but the ride comfort seems to have improved even on 255/30/20 and 285/30/20. Maybe its because my PS2s were so worn the compound was rock hard. I had 30,000 miles on my PS2s when I took them off.

Wow, you got 30K out of your PS2s, Billy? That's pretty awesome. Mine are MAYBE 1/16th from the wear bars. It might be closer than that. I like the Vreds, and they should be easy enough to find over here but the noise might keep me from going that route. The Contis weren't very loud but I definitely don't want to go any louder.

fuddman, thanks for the info. I have a dedicated winter set so I might end up with the DW instead of the DWS.

Tire/rim insurance isn't available through military car sales. I'll check with USAA to see if they'll cover it.

I pulled a nail out of the left rear about 4,000 miles ago. I used a simple plug and did not even take the tire off the car. Took about 10 minutes and has been GTG.

Probably not. TUV kinda limits the repairs one can make on their own cars. Yeah, I can't wait to get back to the US. EVERYTHING is a pain in the ass over here.

Well when govt regulate things just get more expensive even basic things. I patch my own on my last car for 5 bucks. Took it two three shops which refused to do it because liability. Thanks to USAA the tow was free.
