I predicted split E36 M3 style mirrors back in November!
Don't worry about these looking not so hot. Damn, every new finding we have, bumper, flares, rims, mirrors, etc. almost EVERYONE gets all excited and bent out of shape saying "that's hideous", "I won't buy it", etc. Of course then two weeks (or one great p-chop) later everyone is saying , , etc. RELAX! From germancarzone.com we know: -These mirrors are not a p-chop -These mirros still have some camouflage on them -They look "way better" in person I have a E36 M3 and have always loved this split/winged mirrors. You can see an E36 M3 coming a long way off because of these (they look pretty hot on the Ferarri Testarossa as well). I regretted (as well as many E46 M3 owners did) that my E46 M3 did not maintain this mirror design. I am happy to see them back. |

Personally, I would be much happier if they design a split mirror like the 997 which could still support auto-folding.

Camouflage
A bit OT but you really notice it in these pics. That darn camo that plagues us so badly is literally taken off an inch at a time. Just about every new mule shot we see has inches removed here and there. I guess the time for the sneak previews alluded to will really be in a couple of weeks - There is almost no camo left!

Here's a couple shots from a while back that shows the mirror from the backside pretty well. Amazing what you can see in the camo when you know what's underneath.

I think these pics have a piece missing!
Hey guys, I am only a newbie here but I think it is clear that these pics are missing a piece of aero fairing that will flow from the front corner back to the mirror. The mirror mount looks like there is a piece missing in these pics and the disguised shots seen beforehand all look a lot more flowing and sleek!
I don't think we will be disappointed with the final look! |

No doubt BMW is trying hard to differentiate the M3 from the non-M3 E9x cars. I wonder if those mirrors can be retracted automatically like the E90 premium package ones.

you know what? i wouldnt doubt it. they could be covering the entire bumper because they are placing the plate there. maybe that blue M3 photoshop on autoweek was right. maybe they are using the regilar E92 3 series trunk for now. hmmmm in reality i wouldnt mind seeing it that way.

I HIGHLY doubt those mirrors are the final production. If anything BMW is just testing out designs as one would on a mule anyway. not to long ago the M3 sported a completly different set of mirrors which were shared on previous posts.
