Safe Tire Storage (Storing ZCP M3)

I've read through some excellent posts about storing my 2011 ZCP M3 for the next 6 months while deployed. I am still concerned about how to properly and cost-effectively preserve my tires (avoiding flat spots). I've come to the conclusion to NOT elevate the vehicle on jack stands (due to potential suspension damage). I've come across the following feasible methods:

-Plastic Wheel Cradles

-Wooden Planks

-Over-inflation

-Install cheap "beater" Tires


Does anyone have any experience or insight on the following storage methods for your M tires in excess of 4 to 6 months?

I don't think you'll have a problem storing it for 4-6 months. I work overseas and mine is stored and have not had a problem. Make sure IPOD is unplugged, tires a little over-inflated, and put a cover on it. I don't know if it's necessary but I also set two rodent traps, I've heard about animals chewing on wires, etc.

Just park it on wooden planks wide enough for the tires (or at least cardboard) and you'll be fine. I've never overinflated and my tires have been fine, although you'll want to check pressures before driving off again.

I'm going to try the wooden plank + carpet combo on my 4Runner. I'll be using Flatstoppers (https://www.raceramps.com/flatstoppers.html) for the M3. I'll be over-inflating tires on both methods. Thanks for the advice. I'll post reviews when I return

Dont leave on cement, suggest you to hang them, there are metal stands with hooks that you hang youw wheel so it doesnt touch the ground at all, nor scratch the wheel

Option 3: Over-inflation

4 to 6 months is a relatively short period of time. My first deployment was 12 consecutive months. I overinflated (40 psi aprox.) all the tires on my (then) brand new Mini Cooper S, and 12 months later, the tires were perfect, no flat spots. They only lost 2 psi over that time period.

Six month deployment? Nice, you must not be in the Army. My M3 has been fine and it has sat longer than that. Just get the trickle charger.

I'm taking the following precautions to garage the M3:

-Oil Change (just hit 1200 mile break in)
-Full tank gas (no stabilizer)
-Car wash/wax; leather shampoo/conditioner
-Lay sheet of plastic on the garage floor (moisture control underneath)
-Drive car onto Flatstoppers (w/ slight over-inflation)
-Parking brake disengaged, gear in neutral, ipod disconnected, windows/doors closed
-Hook up battery to Battery Tender (http://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender...dp/B000CITKCE/)
-Indoor car cover
-Rodent and Bug Traps (w/ sock over quad tips)

Btw, I am in the Air Force. But I solely work for the Army as their aligned JTAC in the field. We expect 6 month minimum, but I have been on 12 month tours.

I assume that you're storing it privately? If you are storing it with your Rear Detachment, they should offer to start your car and roll it short distances to avoid flat spots. Not saying that I would trust them to do so (with an M3, especially)... best bet is to leave it with someone trustworthy who can maintain it, along with providing him/her with a power of attorney.
