Embarrassing moments with your M?
Has anyone else received the heart punch? How about the squinty eye teeth grind?
Definitions: 1) Heart punch : The pain felt when you open the door while standing too close to the handle. As you open it, the window strikes you in the chest with a painful and embarrassing tap on the sternum. 2) Squinty-eye-teeth-grind : You are entering or leaving a driveway which looks as if it has a ?dip? in the path. You think, my car isn't lowered and enter/exit. Then you hear that scraping sound and think they engineered this car to handle anything so there can't be paint left on the tar. Later you spit small tooth particles out the window. 3).........? |

How about the "heart drop" ... when you find that first ding or scratch on your new ride and can't stop thinking about it for days. Research on how to fix it ensues.

Ya, I sort of ran over a parking brick that was too high. No damage, just that scraping noise to the wind deflector under the facia, problem was, a million people at the park I run at noticed, or heard it. I was truly pulling up a millimeter at a time but still heard that awful noise.
Second moment - with MDCT NOTHING happens as far as shifting from reverse to drive unless you have your foot on the brake. So I back out of my driveway into the middle of the street and the car comes to a dead stop, so I give the shift lever a pop to the right for Drive Mode and nothing happens! I'm like crap crap...small panic...this "!" warning light comes on the dash and more of me saying "crap crap" then it dawned on me. Put my foot on the brake switched into drive and left lol....I really think that nobody noticed as no traffic pulled up and waited on me to "find" Drive lol.

How about the embarrassing windshield wiper activation. Getting into the car in front of a restaurant window full of gaping onlookers. Trying to be cool and hitting the wipers in starting the car. It was, of course, not raining.

I had similar thing happen to me the other night on a dinner date. I had one too many wine at the restaurant, we were at the front entrance waiting for the valet to bring my car to me and my lovely girl that I was trying to impress. The car arrived, opened the door for my princes, She got in and gave me a smile. Oh Boy! I strongly sense that she was going to give me some that night as I hurriedly walk around the car towards my door, open it, hurriedly slide in and got seated. I HURRIEDLY Yank hard to close the driver door shut and forgot that my leg/foot was still out the door.
MFkr that hurts, what even hurts was the fact that she saw what happened and it just ruined my act of trying to be cool all that night. Last edited by PocketRocket; 05-06-2008 at 12:03 PM.. |

So far, so good....came close to stalling her, but the clutch is forgiving in that respect.

I was pulling up to my friends house and he was having a big BBQ and everyone was out front. It was the first time most of the people had seen me pull up in the M3. I try to go over the curb bump for the driveway slowly and ended up stalling it. Everyone knew. Caught some flack for it when I walked up.

so after i got her fully detailed i'm all proud pulling around for pictures and bottom-out with a few people watching. i was like...uh, that was retarded. be very, very careful on driveways/dips...if not, the front will scrape. like others have said though, there's good protection underneath so you're not damaging the underside of the painted bumper...ie the "mouth". stay far away from the parking cinder blocks and the rebarb stick up through them.
i've lurched a couple times this car is bad ass!! |

Fitting the M next to the X5 in the garage is a challenge getting in and out. I almost thought of doing Dukes of Hazards and sliding out the window...
How about all the black exhaust stuff that gets all over the rear end and very noticeable on alpine white.... |

Lurch.
Glad I am not the only one. Man it feels terrible. Some practice and I'm sure it will be a non-issue. Seem to get me when taking off aggressive on the throttle and then deciding you have to back off substantially. |

I just cleaned my M and went to a park with the fam...I parked in a decent spot, but who are we kidding, there's almost no such thing as a perfect spot unless you have curbs on both sides of you and no other cars in sight.
Well, I went to check on the car and wasn't satisfied. I was walking back to the table where the fam was while at the same time, scoping a better spot to move to when...BAM...I ran into a tree that stopped me cold in my tracks!! I quickly scanned the perimeter and amazingly, I don't think there was a witness. I laughed at myself and later moved the M3 to a "better spot". I think I would have cried in laughter if I saw someone else do the same. |
