Crazy Idea....

Ok so i am tired of my stock 18's and want a little change. What do you think of powdercoating the stock 18's black? I've never seen this before or heard of anyone doing this, so what do you guys think? Am i crazy... (This would be on a Jet Black E92 btw)

I have the stock 18's, and I was also thinking about powdercoating them black.

But then when I really thought it over, I felt that the original gray finish was too special to mess with.

I think they look brilliant in the stock finish, and I would keep 'em that way.....But that's just me.

Btw, here's a thread that shows pics of a guy who powdercoated his 18's with some kind of gloss black: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...d+black+18%27s

(I know, it's TEMPTING )

Maybe I'll change my mind later in the future.

Here's Satin Black rims with Jerez Black E90.. I've gotten a lot of compliments on this setup.

i have seen both oem's powder coated and for some reason i think the oem 19look better powder coated black. there are some pics on here with the oem 19's powder coated just do a quick search

if you feel the same way then you can sell your 18's and buy a used set of oem 19's or maybe trade the person then get them powder coated the shade of black you want. or you can keep the 18's as back up wheels or winter setup and then get the 19's

you may even get lucky and find a set already powder coated for sale

i personally think the matte black finish or a semi gloss black looks better then the gloss black finish

i got a set of matte black VMR 710's for my winter wheel and tire combo and was gonna powder coat my oem 19's in the spring or get the new Yoko Advan ZD-F's in matte black if i want a lip on the wheel. i get so many compliments with the matte black VMR's now even with the skinny winter tires on there lol.

i can take pics for you if you want?? just lmk if so pm me your email and i will send them to you

The color of the stock 18's is just hot!
BMW got that one right.

Powdercoat your 18's with a fine metallic black. That would still retain the richness and depth which can be seen on the stock color.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, i have a couple more questions
1. When i find a place that will powder coat the rims, do i give them my car for the whole time or just send them my rims/tires?
2. If i do just send them my rims/tires and keep my car, where do i put my car for the period where it doesnt have wheels?
3. How long does the whole process take?
Thanks
Chasen

And how are they holding up? I thought they might peel off real fast.

guess it would depend on how far away the place is etc for those answers. if they are close i would just bring the car if it is a big place and has the room to keep it inside. the place that will do mine is a big time facility and have over 10 lifts and they do alot of high end work and exotics and make custom rims so i am gonna drop my car off. they said 2-3 days to be done

if you ship then you will need car jacks to put your car on or a jack on each side of the car. not sure if you have the garage space for this. i would not leave it outside like this. never know someone could come by and mess with it

here is the place i am gonna use if i powder coat, talk to Mario if you have questions nice guy. they have done alot of M3's

i would do that to the 19's
i think the stocks are great on their own - especially with our exterior color.
