Has anyone successfully updated the 2008 tailights on an E90 sedan to 09+?

Just curious if it was possible to swap out the '08 E90 tailights with a pair from an 09+ E90.

As Technic said corrected said with the quote, it is possible but you need a new trunk from an 09 or newer along with the lights. then you need to get it coded to accept the new LEDs (there also may be another module needed.) Give one of the vendors like EAS a ring for more details.

the new LCI tail did not came out on 09... if your switching from 08-09 trunk or tailights they are the same... the NEW LCI tail came out 11 models.

anyways if this is what the OP is saying... then

if you want the new LCI tails. you need to get it coded... if your going to have the dealer to code it you will have to buy the FRM module before they can even do it...

but if you have EAS or outside coding company then you dont need the FRM module.

He is asking for E90 SEDAN, not E92/3.

It is for an E90, new tails starting in 09.

Apologize for the cryptic description.

I'm interested in going from these tailights:

to these:

Based on your discussions it looks like I would need an 09+ trunk and then purchase the taillights.

I just wanted to know if anyone on this forum has done it.

A couple people have done it. You need new taillights, a trunk, and a flash.

There was nothing cryptic about your post. I and now a couple of others have told you what you need. If you searched this forum, you would come up with this example of how it is done. Good luck with the conversion. Again, I would recommend calling EAS or another vendor to help you through it.

I did what you're asking : e90 08 M3 tails to new LCI tails with a challenge trunk. It was the most frustrating thing ever! I had it coded and coded... then a new FRM and recoded and recoded. I had my coder call and get sFome gracious help from Tom at EAS along the way. Ultimately, I had to re-arrange the wires just to get my reverse lamp to work. Now everything works, but I live with a constant dash 2-stage brake light error (happened after I rearranged the wires- but hey at least everything works now). I'll probably send my car all the way to IND to get some crazy mods and I'm hopeful their supercoder can just permanently turn this damn dash warning off. Anyway, I just thought I'd warn you this may not always be easy as it sounds.

Coupes don't have this problem - this is the first time I've seen it on a Sedan, possibly it could be an early build.

It sounds like the pin for the Brake Force Display (BFD) is out of place, I would look into correcting it rather than disabling it.

DingDingDing!

If you wanted the LCI look to begin with (unless you bought the 2008 new), you should have bought an LCI car.

I love the look too, but for lights, trunk, coding... rather that money go into track time or upgrading to the CIC.
