We've also seen posts from early SMG owners who have said that their cars spent significant time at the dealer getting fixed. So, there must a statistical spread. But I still agree with Hans that the "chances" of a brand new transmission causing trouble is higher overall. It would be good to have the actual data to say how high that chance has been exactly for early SMG cars. Only BMW knows that.

The E46 M3 had some delays as well... I think they were engine/heat related, or was that just a rumour? I really was on the waiting list for that one too! As far as M-DCT/DKG.... I'd be willing to take the risk as well. A tranny like that has gotta be too good to pass up. I'm just looking for excuses to get an M5 on a cheap lease, now that "the bugs have been worked out" of it. LOL

When did you guys place your orders? Perhaps this has to do with if you got delayed or not.
I placed my order 1/31 and got a production number (a car that was already 111 passed to me). So far no delay for me.

I am really bored by the prospect of delays. I dont know what to do at this point. I cant get the car at the end of the summer cause this is gonna be a real killjoy. I am tempted to get a 6MT (my dealer has 3 in stock or order for march build) but I just know deep down that I am going to regret it in the longer term. I drive in heavy traffic so the lack of a third pedal would be welcome plus I know that the technology aspects of the DCT (expected performance, economy and smoothness advantages) would make me drool when I see one. The only other car that I would consider at the moment is the facelifted CLS63 AMG, however, it costs almost double and wont be as polished dynamically. I just dont know what to do...

I hear where your coming from about knowing deep down that if you waited for a few months more you could of got what you really wanted.
Like everyone else on here from the UK, I've been told June a build. I've been patient up to now, so there is no way I'm going to jump ship for 6MT. I've even got a further 4-6 week delay due to the individual piano black trim I've specced. I'm looking at a Aug/Sept delivery just in time for the new registration plates. Quote:

I guess you are ok in the UK as the car would be usable all year round since you dont get snow. However where I live I have to pretty much garage it for 4-5 months. Damn Gulfstream.

I orded mine on january 11th. The order status then was production in mid-march. He said that it was a big risk that the production was going to be delayed. And yesterday he called and said that the order status on his computer was a delivery in week 26-27. He said that he should talked to BMW Stockholm for a report on the situation. The reason is simply that BMW couldnīt produce enogh transmissions to March I guess. Order Status 111 ? You mean that you are number 111 in the U S ?

I live in Switzerland and we don't have waiting lists. 111 means that the order has been confirmed by BMW but that the production date is not fixed yet. After that 112 follows which means the production date is fixed and you can change only a few options. Shortly after that, status 150 follows, meaning you can only change the color.

Looking at the launch on the M3 in the UK I think it suffered quite a bit from only having the 6MT transmission. A lot of SMG E46 owners wern't taken with the new car on their test drives.
My bet is to prevent the same happening in the USA market which will account for 50% of all M3 sales, that all (strictly limited) M-DCT production will go there until June production at the earliest. I was tempted to wait for DCT but it seems pointless taking delivery late July when the reg changes 1st september in the UK, so I'm sticking with 6MT. In terms of cars they make I heard a figure of 100k over the lifetime which works out at say 15k a year, about 250-300 cars a week. Was SMG 60% of production on the E46 so to meet demands they will need 150-200 units a week and far more over the next 6 months to meet launch demands. |

Just called BMW NA, my week 10 production is still on schedule.
Looks like no delay with my M-DCT order.

Then I have 112. I have production in the beginning of June. The order was confirmed the day after my order 12th of january and I got production in begining of March. Now it got delayed to june. So I suppose I had 112 when I ordered the car and I still got 112. Or I have had 111 all the time waitning for an 112.

My production is still for week 10. But itīs not fixed yet. I hope it will be tomorrow. The season in Sweden ainīt so long. April delivery is perfect. In october/november the autum begins with bad/rainweather. So an autum delivery isnīt so fun.
