E92 M3 Performance Center Delivery?

Does anyone know when the Performance Center would have the new M3? I would like to take delivery there and get some track time in the new beast before I drive mine home. I am number 5 on the list at my dealer and I am hoping to have my car by May...Thanks!

Good question, I was wondering the same thing after reading the article about Captain Kirk and his X5 in the BMW Magazine. Anybody know how much this actually costs?

There is no additional cost for BMW PC delivery. They pay for it with the normal delivery charge. You just have to pay for your transportation to Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Most who have taken Performance Center delivery have given glowing reviews. The performance delivery includes a paid night at the local Marriott and dinner for you and a guest. Following day they cover your breakfast then shuttle you to the delivery center where you spend the day doing three things. 1. Tour of plant/museum 2. Mini-autox and playing around with similar car 3. Delivery of your car. The Vehcile Preparation Center is right there, so if there are any problem they can fix it on site. You do need to pay your dealer about a week before taking delivery, however.

Another advantage is you KNOW your delivery date well in advance. You ask for Performance center Delivery as early as Status 111. They accept the order, and recode it as a 9 to ensure that it gets to them in time. This happens about 56 days (8 weeks) before delivery. The the PC contacts your salesman with the earliest possible date, and then you accept that or request something later (to match with other life items, like work). Once you agree upon a date. THAT is your delivery date.

Just found this on BMW of North America site: http://www.bmwusa.com/bmwexperience/...enter/delivery

I may take Performance Center delivery to a) visit friends in nearby Charlotte and b) ensure I can find someone who can put on a good clearbra and some Huper Optik tint, as New Orleans sucks for aftermarket car accessories at the moment.

Oh, and possibly a subwoofer, depending .

I'm thinking about doing M-school as well.

This is from Pinecone over on the Roadfly board (7/02):

"Also Mike Messer (mikemesser@yahoo.com) can do Stongard the night of your delivery. Drive down to Atlanta (about 2 hours) and drop car off. He provided transportation to/from your hotel. You pick it up in the morning done. And he does GREAT work."

This idea sounds awesome! It will also be a good way to break in the car too...772 miles from my home to SC.

2,700 miles for me--I'd have to stop in, like, Kansas City for 1,200 mile service.

Great info! Now I can bother my dealer again. Do you think the similar car will be the new M this spring or E46 M3's for a while longer? Love the E46 but would like to get feet wet in the E92.

check out the biltmore estate in NC. that was part of the three day course for the M5 in 2002 and was pretty cool. BMW provided M roadsters for everyone to head up there in a convoy.

also, go to Deal's Gap and drive on the Tail of the Dragon. 318 turns in 11 miles!!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deals_Gap

If you are driving through Virginia on your way down or back from SC, don't speed in VA. Reckless driving is anything over 82 and they have many speed traps in the middle of nowhere along I-77... I found that out the hard way and had to get a lawyer to get it knocked down to speeding.

that truly is such a shame that laws have become so strict. i know, i know, there are idiots out there, etc, but that sounds so shitty to be stuck below 82. i guess its always up to you to break the rules and take the risks, though. i just don't see how 82 mph is magically reckless.

I plan on taking PC...& Deal Gaps & the blue ridge parkway are my main targets of roads that I must drive on the way home. Also @ home I scribbled up a route on my Delorme software, but I will get something set in stone once it gets closer to the date. I'll post it up so others can use if they want. Maybe I'll do a school while I'm down there, we'll see. Its going to be a great way to get down with break-in quicker...a straight shot from Spartenburg, NC to my house is 725 miles but given that I'll be taking the extreme scenic route I'll probably be right on point with the 1200 mile service....I can't wait

If you're going to go down to the PDC, you should aim for Spartanburg, SC instead of Spartenburg, NC, much closer.

I was at Century BMW today in Spartanburg inquiring about price and M-DCT and they had no new info. The SA actually encouraged me to take delivery at the Performance Center and told me exactly what Greg W already posted.

They had a 2006 M5 on the showroom floor with $5,000 worth of rims and tires, fully loaded with SMG and 10K miles for $72,999.

Century BMW in spartanburg is actually where I have my deposit; #3 on their list. I've planned on doing the performance delivery for awhile now as it's only about an hour and a half away from me.

And monsta, Deals Gap/TOD is unreal. If you do the whole Cherohala loop, it's a full day's drive and definitely worth it. The speed limit through the dragon is 45, but all the signs "recommend" 25 mph through the turns. I never left 2nd gear the turns were so tight.

I did it twice, great experience.

I put "hand wash" on the delivery instructions. Car was in glass garage in pristine condition with 1 mile on the odometer. No one takes the car to McDonalds or to get gas, they get processed and queued up for PD.

Because snow and ice closed the track, the let me come back 5 months later and do it all again.

Definitely the way to go. I think I have pictures on smugmug somewhere, I'll check.

I did the PCD when I picked up my 2005 E46 M3 in Dec 2005. You could also bring a friend along and share the driving experience. The both of you will take turns driving the courses and they provide top notch services from picking you up from the airport to the Marriot and to the PDC the following morning.

I'll certainly will do this again and will encourage my wife this time. heh heh heh. If not, then my sister will come along again.
