Frozen Gray M3 U.S. Owners Warned About Matte Paint
As reported on M3POST Homepage.
Per Bimmerfile, it seems that not only did US folks have to act fast in getting onto the exclusive 30-spot reservation list for the Frozen Gray M3, but they are now being required to sign a paint disclosure. Whether this is due to the sensitive nature of the matte finish paint or to avoid potential litigation from Frozen Gray M3 owners is not known. The following recommendations are on the paint disclosure:

Repairs to the paint (scratches, dents, etching) must be completed by a BMW trained body shop. Most auto body shop will not be capable of repairing the frozen gray paint.
Hahahahah so they can bend u over

I think the color is identical to Space Gray (just doesn't have the 2nd Stage Clear Coat applied over the top).

Actually it does have a clear coat applied... the base coat HAS to have one. The difference is that a flattening agent is added to the clear in order to give it the matte finish. It's the same clear as is used with glossy paint... just with an additive that keeps the surface from forming a consistent skin.

So how do you protect the paint if you can't wax?

I believe that Swissvax has a product for matte paint that was developed for Lamborghini.... otherwise you go naked and hope for the best.

Wow, BMW make it sound like owning this car will be a major pain. Not worth it. It's just a car...

Matte paint is great for an exotic like a Lambo or Ferrari that are only driven like 1k miles per year. But for a car like M3 which most people uses it as a daily driver. Matte paint is a terrible choice. With no clear coat to protect your paint, you will pretty much need to repaint the car in 4-5 years. if you must have a matte finish on your car. You are better off getting a standard color and wrap it with Matte vinyl.
