You can't suggest a 14 second car and then request to end the thread lol.

Sure he can blow his whole mod budget (6-8k) for a good turbo kit for a G35.. But then you better hope he goes for a PERFECT g35 coupe that needs no maintenance since he wont even have money for safety items even (brakes, tires, etc), let alone other performance upgrades (clutch, suspension, brakes, any cosmetics, exhaust bits).

And if his budget is around $25,000, you WILL be able to find a car that goes under 13 second in the quarter if you can sacrifice a bit in the 'style' department if this is truly a 'beater'. Im talking an easily tuneable turbo car or a V8 with potential (possibly Supercharged). So things like a Mustang, C5 Z06, 300zx-TT, Supra (w/ 2JZ), Skyline, 240sx, STi, EVO are cars to consider. My friend has a 240sx he DD's the whole summer that runs around 12.75 in the 1/4. (He is quite mechanically inclined though). So it CAN be done on this budget.

Again I mean no disrespect. This is my 2 cents, and I don't mean for any animosity . Let's have a good discussion!

Cheers.
no offense taken. but dont you think the OP is asking for a bit much considering his budget limitations and desire for a good reliable DD?

I definitely agree with you that he is asking alot. 12 seconds is a fast car and will be as fast as his nice M3/M6 if not faster. (at least if he keeps his ///M cars stock.) So I do not really get it either in a sense. However following his guidelines I would not say it is an impossibility. He could always tune a Civic to be that fast and be somewhat reliable (ie. there may be some gimicky things but it will get him where he needs to go) if he really wishes for something fast and will give up all the luxuries.

You can find a lot of 03 Cobras for around that price right now. As far as speed goes it is faster than all of those you listed bone stock and with about a 1000 dollars in a tune blower pulley and intake you can be at 440-460 rwhp very easy.

Saturn ION Redline.
Stock ~210-220 whp. and about 200 lb/ft
700 dollars in mods puts you up to about 250/250 to the wheels.

You can buy an 06 for under 10gs, fully loaded, with LSD, etc.

If you feel like going crazy you can twincharge it, or do some heavier modding and get it to 350.

Done and done

You just want to turn the key go to work in your suit and tie.

I remember in my younger days I used to drive my modded civic to work and I often had to pull on the side of the work to adjust something(throttle cable, something loose, loose cf hood etc)in my suit and tie...my colleague which was way older than me told me listen kid...been there(he had modded Trans/Am, Stang, 80s Civic in his youth) done that. Kid drive something cheap, reliable and stock that doesn't draw attention from the bosses to work keep your civic at home that way you don't dont walk into the office with a dirty suit. I went to the dealer later that day and bought a brand new Mazda Protege(did put some wheels, suspension). Within 6 months I sold the problematic civic.

If you do decide to mod your DD, just throw some bolt ons, like an exhaust, intake, wheels, suspension. Otherwise if youre set on buying these problem prone machines just DD your M6 and keep a stage 3 S4, F/I M3 as the week end warrior.

Trust me on that one. I had an A4 that was blowing coilpacks all the time what a PITA....it was under warranty too.
Couldn't agree with you more. This is exactly the reason why I sold the evo and got an 03 golf TDI. Pretty drastic difference as this thing is slow as balls, but it gets 45 mpg and gets me to work.

I DDed my evo with suspension work, built motor, big turbo and the whole 9 yard for 3 years and it was fun at times but also aggrevating. I'm glad I made the switch, and now I have a peace of mind that I have a solid DD for at least 10 years from now. I just need a nice weekend car.

Ok I'm slightly confused. Is there a reason you need a car to run TWELVES for a daily driver? You said you can't stand not having enough power to do "lane changes etc", but a car that runs 12's is a bit much I think, especially considering your budget. If you want something that is "$5k~$10k max and rest for mods." then you might as well get an old Civic hatch, toss a B18 or H22 in it, boost it, and call it a day, otherwise, I think a bone stock 350z/G35 would do you fine. Yeah a high 13/low 14 second car isn't the same as 12's, but you are talking about a daily driver here, not a race car.

The VQ35 in the Z/G is fine but they don't like boost without going with forged internals, and that costs bank. I am a mod for a 350z site and know quite a bit about them, so I am not making that part up. We have had SEVERAL members lose their boosted motors because they weren't forged, and a couple that blew up even though they were forged. The VQ is fantastic in NA form, but after that you are looking at a serious money investment if you want reliability.

My realistic suggestions for your budget would be:

SRT-4
Cobalt SS (preferably the turbo version)
Civic with lots of mods
350z/G35 coupe
Mazdaspeed 3
Terminator (03-04) Cobra with a pulley
Camaro SS or TA WS6 with some bolt on's

I mean, if you want a 12 second car for your daily driver that you are going to put a ton of miles on, that's your business, but I honestly think you would be happy with a car that will run high 13's. Just my 2 cents.

Dude you live in NJ.. Buy a bugeye WRX (02-03), or an 04-05 for around 10grand, and shoot to the moon. WRX with 10k in engine mods will put you in 11's EASY!! AND you can drive it in the snow.

Having come from an '04 G35 coupe I can testify that it's not the fastest thing out, but you can certainly change lanes with vigor. Throw a Stillen true dual exhaust, any sort of intake and some other basic mods and you have a great looking, reliable dd that didn't cost you an arm and a leg. However they're total shit in the snow

But 12's? As a DD? Really?

Im getting a white WRX with 82k on ODO for $12k and gonna put some bolt ons for DD i think it would be fast enough and 12's was kinda pushing it.
