How to paint chrome side grill to matte black (VIDEO)
I decided to make a video on a DIY for the side grill as I have found a lot of members here are interested in that like I was.
First of, I would like to thank RLDZHAO, I read his post and decided to try it myself and it is great. I just included a video to make it easier on whoever wants to try this. DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU MIGHT CAUSE YOURSELF OR YOUR CAR OR ANYTHING THAT INVOLVES YOU OR YOUR PROPERTY. THIS IS MERELY A GUIDE TO HELP YOU OUT VISUALLY. IF YOU DO DECIDE TO DO THIS, DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! At the end where I show you how it looks on the car, it doesn't look quite as nice as in real life because the sun was going down. However, it really looks good in person. Any questions or comments are welcome. Enjoy |

The paint is dupli color bumper paint because it gives a matte black finish sand paper I used 220 grit then 600 (he suggested 800) flat head screw driver hex screw driver one more thing you might need that he did not mention was if you are planning on removing the m emblem like I did instead of taping it over, get yourself some sort of adhesive to stick it back on. I think that's all. |

Great DIY vid, cute cat too! hahah.
Btw i wouldnt paint the kidneys...they will start to chip soon after. Also a top coat of clearcoat would be great to help prolong paint.

I'm gonna try my side grills and kidneys at some point this week. Sure, the kidneys might chip over time, but it's cheaper than paying $100+ for a set.

Just got done spraying the 3rd coat on my side grills, I'll post pics after they dry.
bmstyle, what did you use to put the M3 emblems back on? Mine are still sticky, but I don't feel like they're sticky enough for the long haul. edit: pics. I can't believe how easy this was and not to mention how quickly it can be done. I think I started ~3 hrs ago.
