Her co-worker who handles BMW was just doing a follow up and got the info. Not sure how I can track it to know when it's released. I have not spoke to David yet. This sucks. Typical gov't bureaucracy at its best. Must be a new "stimulus" job

It's amazing that in the span of 24 days my car was dropped off in Munich, transported to Bremerhaven, loaded on a huge vessel, made multilple stops along the way over here from Europe, landed in Jersey, cargo discharged, and cleared by Customs- awesome. Now it's 7 days!!!!!!! waiting to cleared by the USDA? Ridiculous.

It's been 99 days since I've ordered the car. Just waiting for my 100 day anniversary.. At least you know why your car is being help up. I wish I had an update on this but I guess I'll have to wait it out. David didn't pick up and neither did the VPC. I guess next time I'll have to make sure not to stuff animals into my bumper so I can bypass USDA checks.

I spoke to my SA and he still sees it as "In Transit". Once it clears customs he will be able to see more information. I'll get in touch with him next week I guess.
Fsarc, I think you and I might be in the same situation.

I'll try calling the VPC early tomorrow morning. Maybe I'll get something out of them.

It seems to me there are two parts to getting our cars released. The initial Customs end when the car first arrives at the port is the proper documentation/paperwork supplied by EH Harms. That part I cleared. I guess this "new" (over a year?) second part is the USDA inspection that does a physical check (?) or further scrutinizes the documentation for final vehicle release to BMW. My wife's colleague who spoke with BMW directly stated the VPC is just waiting for this to be completed and then the vehicle can be transferred to the VPC for preparation. I couldn't really find any info on why and what the USDA does to inspect and clear our vehicles? Anybody?
In any event it is what it is so i have to chill and sit back and wait........... |

I got a message from my SA on 11/4/10 that my car still hasn't been released to the VPC.
C'mon, dudes! FWIW: This is day 30 for me since I dropped off on 10/4/10. It feels more like forever. Absolutely excruciating.

My first attempt at ordering was on July 19th... 108th day today, no end in sight.
I think when it gets here it will just sit in the garage.. |

Sorry about the delay. I totally hate this part of the journey home for all my customers. Fsarc and Von Swoopington have been pretty cool even with the USDA stuff. Since both of you guys are coming into the dealership to pick up your M3s, I'll hook you up with a gift from the parts department.
BMW does state that from drop off in Europe to arrival to the dealer/ PCD it takes 6-8 weeks. Things can happen. Earlier this year I had to tell people, "Because of the Volcano, there have been delays". We'll see your V8 monsters soon!

Are there any major delays at the VPC that you are aware of?

The 5 Series issue caused delays. The tire manufacturer installed the wrong tires on many vehicles that arrived recently. I have been informed that the tire issue should be resolved by mid-month and things will be back to normal. I expect to see your M3 next week barring any delays. I asked them to check on the hood per your request as well, so that may also play a factor in the arrival. Hang in there!

Wow hang in there guys! When I did my first ED there was no USDA clearance, that's really stupid IMO. Seems like a waste of time, dollars and very inefficient. Once customs clears that should be the only thing.

Thanks for posting David. You warned me about "delivery anxiety/withdrawals"! I must reiterate you've been absolutely stellar to deal with from the very beginning and have exceeded all expectations in terms of service, price, and advice. Anyone considering an ED M car would be fortunate to have you as their CA.
Knowing my car made it here in 24 days and is only 20 minutes from me is the painful part. If there were delays on the ocean it would be more tolerable. The USDA part is just annoying. In retrospect I'm fortunate that my car made it here so quickly with no hang ups and I'm well within in the 6-8 weeks you mentioned. I have nothing to really complain about but I need to get driving this thing ASAP so I'm not thinking about it 24/7. I'm sure all you guys understand |
