Finally bought track wheels; will 18x10.5 work with 295/30 in the back?
Thanks to Radiation Joe, I located a set of TE37s in the sizes I've been looking for, and bought them. They are 18x9.5 et28 and 18x10.5 et30. I am thinking about running 265/35 and 285/30, but might consider going up to 295/30 in the back.
Is anyone running a similar setup? Will the 295s rub with the 10.5" wheels? How about offset in the back? Would I need 5mm spacers? I'd also like to hear tire recommendations. I have PSC on my stock summer wheels, and it is great to be able to drive to the track on them, but I'll probably be looking at the R1s, but they don't seem to come in 295/30. At least, that's what the tirerack site says. UPDATE: Pics below with 265/35 and 285/30 BFGs. (I highly recommend the wheel totes to keep your leather in the back seat from getting trashed during transport.)

295 should fit on a 10.5 with no problems. i am running 285 on a 10" rim. as for tire choices, cant help you there. only have experiene with PS2s and Pzeros... havent tried PSCs yet but i would think PSCs are a good choice. at least you can drive to the track on your track wheels. otherwise u'd have hell if u go home on a mildly wet road on R tires. u'd end have to bring the track wheels along with u and change them out at the track

295 will surely fit on the 10.5" rims, but will they clear the fenders and the suspension? How much space do you have on either side of your 285s, and what is the offset on your 10" rims? Thanks.

I'm also thinking about the 295s in back. Here's my logic:
Stock offset is et22 with 265mm on 9.5 inches If you go to 295mm tires on 10.5 inch wheels with et30 your get, -18mm for the tire (using Tirerack info), +4mm for the offset give a total of 14mm closer to the fender. +18mm for the tire (using Tirerack info), +4mm for the offset brings you 22mm (3/4 inch) closer to the inner fender. The Tirerack measured the 295s on 11 inch wheels which is conservative. So if the numbers above work, you should be ok. |

R1s do not seem to be avaliable in 295s for the rears (Hossiers are), and the Hossiers are not available in 265s for the front (R1s are). That seems strange...

The rear wheel wells are huge inside, particularly to the inside, so a higher ET isn't a problem. A 10.5 width at ET30 should fit with no problem and the wider tire 285 or 295 should also fit ok.
The fronts are a different story. 18x9.5 ET 25's work really well up there, but the gap between the inside of the 9.5 rim and the strut is just under 1/2 inch at 11mm. With an ET28, you lose 3mm of the clearance and that might leave too little. In theory, it will work - I've run gaps of 7mm with no problem and this setup has 8mm, but it's going to depend on the width of the tire. If they're wider than spec, they might rub the strut. Where did the TE37's come from? I want a set (if they're affordable...) |

Stock front offset is et29, so why would I lose 3mm mm with et28? Anyway, it seems with the extra width, I would have 12mm less on the inside total. That should clear. Turner fit 10" wheels up front, so this should be fine (I don't knwo their offsets though). I pmed with you some other info.

1. The alternative was to go with 275/35 F; 295/30 R Hossier R6s (they don't come in 265s). I decided that's a bit too much given the rims are 9.5"/10.5". 2. BFGs are about $60 cheaper per tire. 3. BFGs seem to be getting better reviews. I'll have them mounted on the rims soon, but the season starts mid-March around here at the earliest unfortunately... The rears should weight 42lbs and the fronts 44lbs each with the tires!

Sounds like a good choice. I need to replace my rears before the season starts. I'm still up in the air over the 285 vs 295 rears. Leaning towards the 295 PSCs.

Being able to drive to the track on the PSCs is a big plus. I currently have them on the stock 19" rims. Have you driven on PSCs in the rain? Is it a big no-no? Since I'll be driving to the track with PSCs, I was thinking they could act as my rain backup, but I have a sense that I should probably not get on the track if it rains. What's your take? I know PS2s are great rain tires, and when the PSCs wear out, I'll switch back to them.

I used PSCs as my street/track tires back in CA. I drove them in the rain on several occasions. They hydroplane and you have be careful, but that's no reason not to put them on. I would be very reluctant to run them on the track in the rain, however.
They don't like cold (less than 50 degrees) temperatures. You have to get a few laps into them before asking for 100% on cold days. They can break away quickly on cold days. Not the most forgiving tire, but well worth the compromises. |

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...ht=te37+brembo Not all BBKs use 380mm rotors, which is a factor. Caliper geometry is obviously also a factor.
