question about driving a modded M3
I see alot of modded M3's in SO CAL. Does anyone ever park their modded M3 at the parking lot, lets say at the Santa Anita Mall? Or do most people who have modded cars just drive them around and never really stop anywhere besides places where they can keep an eye on it?
For example, lets say if I bought a lamborghini, i wouldn't park that car anywhere, i'd just be driving it. The only place it would be is parked at the dealer getting serviced or in my garage. I would feel totally comfortable parking my car almost anywhere that's not too ghetto, but if I were to mod my car with lowering suspension, $5k plus rims, hood, trunk, alot of things that really make the car look nice I would feel very uneasy parking it in public as it would just attract too much attention. This is kind of the reason why I am hesitant on modding my car, because I like to feel at ease when I have to park it somewhere. |

This is where insurance comes into play. It's not worth owning a car if you're constantly worried about the last place you left it.

Maybe for a lambo or a rarri, but this is just an M3. In a couple years there will be a ton on the street.
That being said you should still use some common sense because the M is a nice car. Rims can get jacked pretty easily and are easy targets for thieves. I basically pick and choose my battles every time I decide to drive it haha. "Do I want to risk a door ding today???? Hmmm..."

I'm more worried about scratches and dings than the car getting jacked. The M3 is not an exotic, so I'll park it just about anywhere. I DO NOT, however, valet my car - ever.

you paid 60,000+ for the car and you are worried about wheels? Live life my man. If you are looking over your shoulder at your car all day the girls will walk on by and you will go home with your hand.....

Just think, other people don't have common sense towards other cars. That said, they'll just swing their doors open and say "oops" after the damage has been done.
With myself, I like space, so with any car, I park pretty far to have room on both sides when I park. I'd rather walk a bit more with no one next to me, than to walk a few hundred feet less to maybe get door dings and such.

well i know what you mean by feeling uneasy... i ordered advan rs wheels in gunmetal for my car and i felt that at 2500$ a set, the wheels probably arent worth stealing. they're not the 5-6k rims that other people have on their rides... the way i look at it, you should only put mods that you are comfortable with. for me, i dont want my ride to stand out too much so its just going to be a diffuser, exhaust and wheels... not going to do much else. this way i still have full use of my car even while going in and out of parking ramps, etc and i wont have to worry too much bout it... besides it'll look just like the millions of 3 series on the road.

It's only a car, have fun and mod the hell out, that's why we pay insurance. The car is meant to be driven. You can't be scared and just leave the car in the garage. But one has to use wise judgement on where one drives. Some places are better than others.
