Radar Detector Installer - L.A.

Anyone know of a good, reputable one? Who can do a completely integrated install of a Passport 9500ci?

^ The V1 is an excellent radar detector. I own two of them.

does it handle false alerts better than a passprot 9500ci? I'm thinking of doing a Custom V1 install so its integrated into the mirror.

trying to compare V1 vs. Passport 9500ci......
- the Passport also has laser shifters incl.
- the V1 has directional arrows
- the K40 has dual radar sensors in both the front and rear

so many choices.......

I am doing the mirror on mine. Everything is here awaiting install. I don't see it being difficult. I skipped on the Passport cause of all the extra crap you have to do. I have found the V1 to work well without the need for the extra monitors.

I'm assuming that since we are in LA, we don't need laser diffusers as much?

I don't know about NEED cause that will depend more on where you are and what the LEOs use there. I have done just fine with my V1s.

If looking for placement of the display units, here's a unit we built for the VF Widebody M3:

After finishwork & paint, this bolts in place of the ashtray on the center console.

The bottom display units are used for digital boost pressure display and Air/Fuel monitoring with the VF Supercharger kit.

Very trick piece. Wish I had a plastic cnc machine to make stuff like that.

Yeah I got quoted $2,499 at one shop, then $1,600 at another. Both are tax-paid, installed prices. BIG DIFFERENCE.

IMO that's insane for any radar detector (I assume that price is based on the Passport).

Yes - Passport 9500ci. It's the bees knees

I just have issues with peeps charging $1,000 for installation AND selling the unit at retail.

I completely understand. I looked into the Passport before getting a 4th Valentine. It was just too much money for what you were getting. I also didn't like the fact that no retailers were willing to deal on it.

V1 has saved me MULTIPLE times

And it's the only one wth arrows which is very convenient and useful.

Wiring it was easy - fuse tap to cigarette lighter in glove box, run the wire up, plug in, and done.

Do not use power from +12V lines by the sunroof/interior lights at the top because many of them are BUS lines that will cause issues (unlike the E46 where this was the preferred place to tap).

THE TECH: Interested in seeing your mirror retrofit, I'm very keen on going that way as well. I will just have to buy another V1 for the other cars.

Please do! I was going to try the V1 sunroof method like I did on my E46 M3, just ordered another wiring kit this week so I can move the V1 between my E46 and E92 as necessary.

It is not recommended to use the sunroof wiring on the E92.
