Had very little room to put my hand behind the bulb. I don't know if the bulb base was supposed to "snap" in to the existing housing or what, but there was no room for my hand to turn the base. I hope they are sat correctly.
2012 E92 M3 Coupe 1. Remove the (-)Battery Press in towards the cover, directly above the clips (red dots). Turn the TOP of the bulb base clockwise towards the driver side of the car. Pull the assembly out and pull the two gray clips outward until it releases the stock bulb plug (black part). Remaining stock plug. NEXT - Before connecting the new plug, place the V8 LUX eyes into the existing light socket. Notice how the tabs were positioned on the old bulb and try to line up the new LUX bulb the same way as you put it in the socket. Turn the base towards the inside and they should tighten up? This was not apparent to me at all and I couldn't tell if they were locked in correctly. Lastly, connect the new LUX plug, and stuff all the wires back in. Snap the cover back down. This picture shows the bulb taken out, but it was easier to get the bulb into the socket prior to connecting the plugs together. This is as delivered with the last setting at 12,000k.

It's "stupid difficult" for what it is - that is, with full access it should take ~1 minute. Mine took about 10-15 minutes; it's still about a 1 out of 10 in DIY mod difficulty imo.
How many forum members does it take to screw in a light bulb? |

I just installed mine. VERY bright at night. Going to take pics in the morning (got too dark by the time I finished installing).
Overall, I am really happy with these lights |

I just installed mine too. I did not have the V3s, so I can't compare to them. But I can compare to the OEM bulbs, and the Lux V4s are really stunning. I have 'tuned' mine to 5200k - or almost pure white.
The install was simple provided you pay close attention to the orientation of the OEM bulb when you remove it and insert the V4 in the same position as the OEM bulb was removed, then twist it to lock it. What was difficult was the access. It took some finesse to carefully get the bulb into the space, insert it and twist it. I have average sized hands. I am by no means a heavy modder, and both bulbs only took me 30 minutes total. The recommendation above (by pilotchip) to wait to insert the connector until AFTER the install is a good one (Lux recommends hooking up the new bulb before inserting it). Keeping as many wires as possible out of the way as you are trying to gain purchase on the bulb to insert it and twist it is a good idea. The pics posted so far are good ones (see the other thread on comparing the V3s and V4s) so I will not post any more. But they are real bright and impressive. |
