I know what that button does and I'll never use it. It would drive me nuts.
Casey, I assume, you work at Chapman BMW, that's where I got my car. I've got the lone 2012 Individual Monte Carlo Blue E92 in the state from there.

I'm in Europe. My Start up routine....

1. Start the car.

2. Hit this Stupid Button you're talking about.

3. Hit the button thing under the Shifter so I got 5 bars.

4. Hit the M Button.

5...... Hit the f*cking Gas.

Here in Canada we start the car engage the clutch and go. I would go nuts if I had a starting routine like that everyday.

It is ironic to have it in an M3. But that is what an M3 is, dual personality. And this button will help even on a small level - our gas consumption and our environment. There are just days specially here in California that you are stopped for long periods of time. So it's there, we paid for it, it's smart to utilize it. Anyway I notice that when in sequential it does not activate and I love how our settings start in manual and not activated like its not enough to remind us we are driving the Ultimate driving machine. (darn, I sound like an ad already.)

So I was playing with this feature and one thing that might stop you from using it is there's a very slight delay of restarting when you let go of the brake and step on the gas. So if you decide to start the engine before the green light turns on without letting go of the brakes, just turn the steering wheel slightly left or right and the engine starts right off.

I have a 6 MT, so I can't comment on how it works with a DCT, but I actually like this feature. I don't see any reason why the engine ought to be running when I'm stopped. Doesn't bother me at all. Has no effect on performance. Saves fuel and emissions. What's not to like about it?

If I'm in stop and go traffic, I just turn it off (or don't turn it on).
