Menzerna Powerlock is a must try

Just tried it out this weekend. Compared to my regular LSP which is Swissvax Blau Weiss, its 1/4 the price and the final finish is definitely slicker. The depth of shine is not quite there but that's to be expected when comparing a sealant vs a carnauba wax. It goes on easy and comes off just as easy. Last night we had a good amount of rain and my car was outside for most of the night. To my surprise, when I came out in the morning all the water was gone and there was no water spots left behind. We'll see how it does with longevity. I did apply two coats this weekend so that will probably help in that category. Typically, 2 coats of Blau Weiss will last about 12-14 weeks with weekly washes and applications of a quick detailer before the beading is noticeably comrpomised and the surface doesn't feel as slick.

Great minds think alike, I also tried powerlock this weekend and came to the same conclusions you did. 2 coats of sealant but I ended up putting a coat of zymol concours wax on top to fix the depth of shine issue. the surface is not as slick but water beads like crazy. it seems the sealant helps the wax beads water even more. definitively a thumbs up.

I was going to try that with the Swissvax as well but others have experienced not so good results with that combination. Apparantly Swissvax needs a clean surface to adhere to similar to the Powerlock.

I have tried both and while I like Powerlock, BFWD IMHO lasts longer, is slicker, and has more of a carnuba wet look then powerlock. There is no reason to top BFWD with a carnuba like you would do to with Powerlock and BFWD is super easy to use.

How would you compare BFWD and PB to Megs #21? I haven't found anything I like better as an LSP than #21. Depth, gloss, slickness, and ease of use is all there. It's been the only thing i've used that I didn't feel the need to layer with itself or another product.

Having said that, I'm open to change.

Never used meg 21, so can't comment. Blackfire blows away the Poor Boys ex sealants, both in look and durability. I found EX+ to give the most typical sealant shine, very reflective but no depth or warmth.

I just got Power Lock and applied a coat last weekend (with a 2nd layer applied to only the hood 24 hours later). I was impressed with the ease of application and removal. I hope the durability is good but that's yet to be determined, although it is bound to be much better than what I've been using (Menzerna FMJ). The Power Lock seemed very slick and the beading seemed excellent when I ended up in a brief rain shower a couple days later. I may throw on a coat of carnauba this weekend if I feel motivated, but on my AW car it makes little difference in the overall depth.

Try Meg's #21 on your car. I used to think white could only be shiny until I tried it on my last 2 VWs (both white) on the suggestion of a friend of mine that does this for a living. All I have to say is holy shit!

What are you all using to apply PowerLock? By hand or machine - if machine, what pad color, etc...

With Orbital and black or red pad.

I applied by hand using one of those rectangular microfiber applicators. I've never used an orbital to apply a LSP...I think its just easier to do by hand (although it may use a little more product because the machine can probably apply it more thinly).

Same here. I found it easier with the orbital then by hand since it takes a few passes over the same sport to get a thin and even coat of PowerLock everywhere. with the machine, 1 pass is fine.

QUESTION: how long should we wait before applying a second coat of PowerLock

12 hours minimum but I think 24 hours is recommended.

I was impressed at first, but 2-3 washes later (2 weeks) much of the slickness is gone which prompts me to think I should reapply. I suspect it might have something to do the my soap, DP xtreme foam. Is anybody else experiencing short durability. when I say short I means less and a high carnauba content wax which is defeating the point of the sealant.

You might be using too heavy a concentration on your soap which is stripping the sealant. I've done 2 washes so far and it still feels like the first day after I applied. I use 1Z perls to wash.

how much oz do you use in a 5 gallon bucket?

I used 5-6 oz as per soap specs on the bottle.

The concentration will vary based on the soap. Maybe you can try cutting it back for awhile a see how it turns out.
