FYI - the CTS-V is available as a coupe, sedan and wagon. I seriously considered the wagon with 6-speed manual transmission.

The Audi RS4's been discontinued for years, RS5 is not really worth the premium to me.
C63, I just don't like it for some reason...
CTS-V, a friend of mine left his CTS-V at my place when he moved back to China, so I have access to it if I wanted to.
M3, liked it for a while and found one for a very good price (was going to order a Corvette C7 at MSRP but then decided against it when I found the M3 deal)

The E9X M3 is just a much funner car to drive. Its the driving experience that makes it better. My e46 was more fun than the e92 but not as refined. Ive owned a 05 cts-v as well as a 09. The 05 ctsv was actually more involving driving experience and a more exciting car to drive then the 09 cts. Where bmw gens just improved on some aspects, cadillac changed everything with the new v and it felt fast in a straight line but it was to plush and boring.

I love all of the cars but came from the Caddy ~ M3 is a well made car but only time will tell how maintenance costs...

Audi: bad experience with A6 2.7T (turbos broke twice, and misc other problems); no more Audi's ever again for me.

Cadillac: ugly! my personal opinion but to me the styling of virtually all Cadillacs is hideous

Mercedes: high price, low availability when I bought my M3, dealers not too friendly

Lexus IS-F: I almost bought one instead of the M3. At the time, I was going to use the car as a daily driver, so I thought the Lexus would be reliable. I ended up with my M3 because of my past history with BMWs.

Driving feel wise, was the most sports car like 4-dr sedan that you could buy, no matter what the price category.

That looks like the black series not a modded C63.

1. It was always kind of a "dream car" for me. However, living in western massachusetts and being an avid skier, I really needed all-wheel drive. So until I could afford an M3 as second car for myself, I owned Audis.

2. I used to own an RS4. It is extremely capable and similar to the M3 in a number of ways. It is better than the M3 in some ways. However, the steering responsiveness, and general wired-to-your-nervous-system feeling isn't there. The M3 feels much more dynamic and alive through turns, etc. The suspension calibration on the M3 is far superior the that of a stock RS4.

3. The C63 just doesn't have enough traction for the amount of power/torque it produces. Secondly, there isn't even enough room under the wheel wells to mount properly wide aftermarket rubber.

4. CTS-V has the same issue with traction, interior fit and finish is still not up to that of its german counterparts, and there is still that Caddy image for me. Sorry, but I come from a generation where it is an old-man car or a car for the "uneducated rich". A guy who owns a port-a-potty company might own a Cadillac for example.

5. IS-F. I actually like the IS-F a lot, but the exhaust design is really ugly, and the overall set-up of the car is a bit "soft". Still a good effort from Lexus, and I am sure reliability is great.

6. I discovered after owning a 350Z convertible, that even as a toy, back seats make a car so much more driveable. There are times where if you can't transport an extra person or two, even if for a short while, a car becomes completely unusable. Even on a beautiful driving day it will just have to sit in the garage.

7. The M3 is legendary. It is an icon. It is a class benchmark. It has a great enthusiast community to be a part of. Getting on this website and sharing information, experiences, and humor with fellow M3 owners is all part of the enjoyment of owning this car. By contrast, go look at the discussion boards for an Audi R8. Dead.

8. Looks. This car is just so hot looking. The proportions are perfect. I am a big fan of the flared front fender, tapered-in rear look. The car is tastefully aggressive without looking like a cartoon or boy racer. It looks fast, yet sophisticated.

9. I have always contended that the M3 sits smack in the sweet spot of enthusiast car ownership. This goes for all cars. There is no single automobile that offers everything the M3 offers and does it ALL better.

I have also owned and RS4 and a Mb c63. I totally agree with the above and am too lazy to repeat it. He is right on. I would only add this: The Audi interior is better than all of them. no need to order extended leather or extra carbon this and that or actual performance pedals. The RS4 comes loaded. BMW comes in a good second. MB comes in last in my mind. Unless you spend thousands $$ extra for real leather and less plastic. Also, its tough on the RS4 because its 5 years old, so tech stuff cant be compared.

RS5? Probably better than RS4?

YES! interior and the Auto transmission! but the handling is still better on the M3 than the RS5. The $$ of the new RS is too high for me.

I will NEVER understand why the world thinks Audi has the best interiors. They look dated, cheap, cluttered, ugly red lighting everywhere, fugly steering wheel, really ugly dash etc. It's a giant frustrating mystery to me. A perfect BMW interior to me would be a modern driver oriented center taller stack (kinda like porsche) with an integrated scren, one piece seats with a lot of bolstering and a clean instrument cluster. Not really rocket science.

A very close friend has an rs5 and I had an m3.

No one would say that the BMW interior was nicer than the rs5. The tech and materials are much better, and most would think the design is too.

I prefer the more hard edged driving dynamics of the m3, but the rs5 does best the m3 in some categories.
