Do they have all the parts and stuff needed for the 1200 mile servicing?
Don't forget to work your way slowly up the rev band. I believe the break-in instructions are not to really wind it out to redline until 3000 miles, or something like that.

wait hold up.. no redline? the sticker says up to 1200 -5500rpm, -106mph, no flooring... up to 3100 miles -136mph and full acceleration for short periods... nothing about limiting rpm's....
(from memory i could be off) anyone know anything further? |

From 1,200 miles/2,000 km to 3,000 miles/5,000 km Engine and road speeds can be increased gradually up to a travelling speed of 135 mph/220 kmh. Use the maximum speed only for brief intervals, e.g. when passing.

Break in after 1,200
I threw that out without even reading it, but I think forays to the redline after 1,200 should be fine. I don't think taking it to the track for a day before 3,000 is probably the best.

So I wonder what is more important, keeping it under 5500 rpms or 106mph? Reason asking is I am keeping my M3 under 5550rpms (ok...accidently slipped to 6K not watching what I was doing testing out M-DCT auto mode), so at 4700rpms, I am traveling at 120mph. At 5000 rpms, I am cruising right at 130mph. I now have generated 550 miles on my M3 in 4 days.

Did they replace your oil filter? My dealer still owes me one. It's been 14 days since my 1200 mile service.

I had my service last Friday. They didn't have any of the filters, but replaced all the fluids. He told me that I could rip on it as much as I wanted. I don't think I've been passed 7000rpms, but full throttle is quite common. lol.

Break-in
"The transmission begins functioning at an optimal level only after a distance of approx. 300 miles/500 km. Do not exceed engine speeds of 5,500 rpm during this period." No mention of the differential.

Yep, I saw that in manual. The engine speed limitation clearly applies to the rotating parts that would rotate at that speed. What's behind the transmission is a different story though as that's directly coupled to vehicle speed through a fixed ratio. Meaning, the driveshaft will be spinning much faster in 4th gear than it would in 1st at 5500rpms. That might be why there are two constraints: one on the engine speed and another on vehicle speed. But I am just guessing...

BAD NEWS.. they didnt have the parts necessary to finish the service... they said they did everything they could and the parts would be there 7-10 days.. is it safe to pass 5500 rpms now even tho the service was not fully completed...? i asked for a printout to see exactly what was done and it says nothing but ordered parts

It's not a matter of dealers not ordering the parts earlier. They just don't seem to be available in the US at the moment. This is not too much different from BMW saying they had to halt production because they ran out of M buttons.

I dont think it is safe to rev it before the filters are changed. My dealer asked me to take my car but not rev it or put many miles after 1200. So, I just let my car stay at the dealership and I told him that I would take it after the parts get there.
