Yeah there are questions about their response time to notify the public, as well as the reportedly piss-poor encryption in the first place.... I think that's what irks me the most.... That the info wasn't even halfway well protected.

Right you've hit on the two most compelling issues in my mind...the failure to notify and failure to encrypt (if true). That they were negligent in the manner of their security is something that's going to be harder to prove since it's a reasonable standard test (this refers to the prevention of hacking in the first instance).

Lol if I actually get something out of having a PSN account I'm happy with that.^

I can't remember if I gave out any CC info...is that a requirement upon the initial sign up or is it only when you're buying something? Can't remember.

It is mentioned during initial setup, but it is not required. Its actually not even required to buy something as long as you use the PSN cards instead.

Still would rather have my PS3. Hell, we don't pay for online play anyways. I would hate to have to go back to XBOX and get the ring of death every 6 months...

Or buy both, because you're not a 12 year-old with a weekly allowance. The $60/year knock is old, too. Is $5 a month too much to ask for? Really? RRoD is covered by the manufacturer for a ridiculous amount of time too. I've had it happen twice and had it replaced free of charge.

And if you're a savvy shopper you can get Live for $35/yr. I still have my original 360 from launch and never had an issue *knock on wood*, but I haven't used it much to be honest.

I've witnessed my buddy's 360 get the RRoD like 6 times lol. He had to get a warranty thing at Gamestop to get any kind of replacement. Granted we did use it a lot... he's got a new one now and so far so good. I might have to get one myself...

I don't get the XBox vs PS3 fanboi wars.

Who cares? Why would you swear allegiance to M$ or Sony? Both those companies are evil and would sell you for mere cents if they had the opportunity.

However, I did have a buddy who has had 4 RRoD issues with the 360, including the first one way back when it was a bitch to get it fixed. He was without his "baby" for quite some time.

$5 a month is more than nothing, which makes sense in the long run because I don't play online a lot. Also, I know that you don't have to pay to get it replaced, but I got it 4 times and I would rather not have to go through the hassle of sending it in all the time when I pay for something to work. For instance with my PS3 I haven't sent it in yet and I got it in 2007... Lets see, $60 a year or $0?

Haha funny when people say you get what you pay for .... well... PS3 owners that play online games got more than what they paid for!!! Its just natural that big online communities are targets for hackers duhhh.

I pay $35

I got the RROD once...and sold it on CL for $100 cash

Bought an Elite for $130 cash. Sold the 120GB HDD for $50. Kept my original 20GB

I find Xbox Live better than PSN... then again I haven't played PSN in years so I can't really judge lol

Dont really mind the inconvenience as i play COD on Xbox Live. Just hope the identity theft issue isn't too widespread.

Plus, even off the grid, this is still the most advanced console available and with NO problems compared to my 3 360's (2 RROD, 1 E64). To fully put a price on the XBOX, factor on replacing one every 18 months or so along with the XBL fees.

*Yes, pissed at 360 fanboys. No, not at anyone here*

Sony is dropping $350million on the new network rebuild itself. And, Sony JUST started making a profit on the PS3's, and then this happens. Add the lawsuits they are and will be facing from now until hell freezes over, Sony is going to be hurting when this is all said and done.

I've been an avid PS3 user, but I just bought a 360 for the first time the other day, so I can't talk about my 360's reliability. However, I own 2 PS3's, my old fatty lasted years. I bought it after COD4 came out. Never had a problem, even with its upgraded HDD. I recently bought a Slim, 18 days later the blu-ray laser died. It spent weeks away at repairs while my fatty was shipping from Europe with my household stuff.

So, I'm hoping that my 360 at least outlasts the fiasco I had to go thru with my newer PS3.
