As for your Cooper S, it depends on the engine. If you have direct injection it will not be sprayed on the intake valves. They have designed a tool that sprays walnut shells on to the intake valves that removes these same deposits. Same problem with 335's. Don't call BS until you have seen it first hand. |

They did a good job a couple weeks ago convincing me to get the extended 100K maintenance plan which was not cheap..

Also, there isn't just one throttle body. The S65 powerplant has 8 individual throttle bodies. As far as fuel injection cleaner, just run a can of Chevron Techroline...done.

So after reading this thread, I spoke to my buddy who is the service director of my BMW dealer. He told me this is a legitimate issue with 335s and cars that share that motor due to the carbon buildups that occur in the intake system. He also told me that it is not recommended for M3s as they tend not to could like the 335. He also confirmed that it is a dealer recommended service that is NOT part of the service agreement. He's a straight shooter and I didn't detect any BS. Just seems like a recent addition to service a developing problem on certain engines to keep performance tip-top. FWIW.

For the M3 since it uses port injection using a fuel treatment will help clean the intake valves as well as the injectors, the fuel pump etc b/c the fuel mixture is sprayed over the valves. This is not BS..over time fuel will leave varnish deposits on crucial areas...every BMW manual I have read always recommends using techron..I have used it for yrs with good results..as a ref I have a 170K mile car that still has original injectors and pump..always used techron in it. |

i had the same experience at my local dealer...except at 1 year and 11k miles and no coupon! i was furious that they would suggest a service that bmw doesn't recommend under scheduled maintenance at all, much less on an almost new car that is exhibiting no problems of any kind (except for my tpms error which so far they refuse to look at). i have been going to this dealer for about 10 years for service and this was the first time i ever had to take them to task on the ratings. they didn't like it one bit, but that's what you have to do to keep this stuff from getting even worse.
