Interesting clunk. Might be a diff problem?
So it's just started about 2 weeks ago and has gotten more noticable with the colder temps. The issue is slow speed, like first or second gear, while turning around a corner or in a lot. Don't matter full lock or not but generally at about 10-25mph. Sounds like the driver side rear wheel is rubbing but it's not rub. Is this just a famous BMW diff or should I have the dealer check it out? I'm thinking maybe they put the wrong oil in it or something. Just trying to figure out if it's an issue or just normal being I've had the car for a month and a half. Thanks!

I was having a similar issue (sounded like I was driving over an empty paint bucket) but when driving in a straight line.
In my case it was brake pad compound from heavy braking rubbing on the rotors. Went away by itself. Yours sounds a bit different though... I'd just take it to the dealer.

'09 with now just shy of 3,500 miles. I have no codes or messages so its not catastrophic but quite annoying when it happens.

Could be the diff... dealership will put an additive in your diff to make it less noisy but in actuality it is normal, part of having an lsd. Does your car buck a little? also give a search a try... there a couple of threads on it.

Yes it's clunky and almost feels as if the wheel is stuttering and possibly locking up a few times rapidly. I don't care about the noise, it's just the stuttering that occurs. I had my friend who has a e60 M5 try it and said his car doesn't do that so I can't believe that it's a LSD thing. I'll swing by the dealer later and pick their brain today and possibly set up an appointment.

So this thread is two years old, but I ran across it when conducting a search for "rear clunk". The thread ends w/out real clarity.
I'm noticing in my 2011 a very similar symptom this op had in 09: a rear "clunk" (maybe rub??) in my M3 when turning at slower speeds. Anecdotally, it seems to occur in colder vs warmer weather. Limited Slip??
