shipping cars from US to Canada

Hi everyone,

Apologies if the has been asked before....

I'd like to get a car from the US (salt lake city) to Canada and wanted your recommendations on companies that can handle this as I don't have the time to do this.

So this would involve everything from transporting to car to handling the various customs issues.

Thanks

I've used these folks a couple times and had good results. They can do just transport or full brokerage service. http://www.tfxinternational.com/

Are you importing a car from the US and if so what agency are you using?

Let us know how it goes so others here might benefit as well.

Thanks

Yep that was the plan. The sale was to be done privately (2011 M3 Sedan with DCT and all other options for $54k) but the seller then backed out.

Keep us posted on how this works out for you. I definitely think this is the right way to get the M car you want.

Just compare prices on the BMW US website and BMW CA website.
The base price for a brand-spanking new MY2011 M3 sedan in the US was about $55k (USD) (no other options, mind you, you have to add 6.1% import tax to get it into Canada which takes it to $58k USD).

The same car on the Canadian website starts at $70k (CDN).

I brought mine over on my own and had no issues. In fact it was super easy. EEC Motors in Edmonton import cars all of the time for resale and they can set up transportation and all the paperwork to have a car shipped anywhere in Canada for guys that have bought in the US and don't want the hassle of bringing it over the border. My mom bought a X5 in the US and they set up all the shipping and paperwork without any problems. The guy to talk to at EEC is Paul 780 217-1906. They have been doing this for years without any issues.

Guys im having issues getting a Recall clearance letter / Vehicle history report. I got a typed out letter from the service manager of the dealer the car was serviced (private sale). RIV says it's not official because its typed out even though it had all the required elements (VIN, make, model, year). RIV says a vehicle history report print out from any american dealer is best. Apparently i'm being told that its an "internal only" document. Any ideas? I can get a RCL from a Canadian dealer but that requires 500 for inspection and a new instrument cluster (according to BMW Toronto). Do not want to have to pay for such a job to get the RCL. Any ideas? someone who has imported a private sale?

Just get the dealer in the US to print out the service history on the car and it will show no recall on it. Then submit that to RIV. That is from BMW and will work.
