StopTech Pads squeaking

So from what I've heard, they ST Street Perf pads aren't suppose to squeak that much

But mine are driving me nuts..

Any advice...?

I don't have the answer but just wanted to mention that the shop didn't even put anti-squeal lube on the pads and they still don't make any noise at all. I suppose you could try that but it wasn't needed on mine. Maybe there is dirt or something between the pad and caliper or maybe an issue with the install ?

Install was done by a BMW Master Tech whose work I trust and have great experience with

But I didn't supply anti-squeal (as I read they don't squeal..if I had gotten HPS I would have..) so I doubt he got it on his own to apply it

I put anti-squeal on and i've been on quite a few track days and no noise, low dust and ZERO brake deposits left on rotor. The only negative i see on stoptech street performance pads was the low initial bite compared to the oem pads. Put some anti-squeal on and you will be good to go!

Hey Sean as rldzhao already stated try bedding them in.

Did you bed them in properly?

Even if you did after a couple weeks of street driving sometimes the layer you applied onto the rotors comes off and you need to re-bed them in. That should fix the noise :thumbsup"

Yeah I should get some anti-squeal

I have a good amount of brake deposits on my rotors...
What's the best way to clean them?

I guess I'll just need to bed them in again...
My tech did the bedding so I assume they're done properly

Thanks for the advice

You didn't mention if this is a complete StopTech brake system, or just the ST pads with the OE brakes. If the latter, I expect you still have some residue from the previous pads that could be part of the problem. You might also want to verify that your tech understands the bedding procedure, as many street car techs do not.

Sorry if i Wasn't clear

ST pads with the OE brakes

My tech races himself and has a built BMW, so I feel it's safe to assume he knows how to bed pads in.
But I can confirm with him nonetheless.

Hell, I'll prly bed the pads in this weekend as I won't see him for at least another week...

Why wouldn't you just bed them yourself? Go out on the highway, 5 minutes later the process is done. 10 times to 60mph and very hard brake to around 10mph. I don't know that I would want my tech doing this but that's just me.

Then he understands high performance pads, and I would not insult him with the question. But yes, take it out this weekend and do it again. If there is some residue from other pads, it can sometimes be challenging to remove.

Cause I trust that he is much more capable than me.

I have personally never bedded pads in before while he has does it on a regular basis.

Also...I assume you haven't driven on the 101 freeway lol.

There isn't a stretch where I could do 60mph then stop then go to 60mph

There are cars on there all the time, except between 3am to 5am.

But I do have a couple of spots I could try out :P

How can I try to get the residue off?

I had the OEM pads on for about 6500 miles or so, and maybe 7 track days? less? more? long day today so I can't really think lol

The only way I have ever removed previous pad transfer material is by bedding. You don't need to come to a stop, but you should brake a few times from speed in excess of 60 also, if possible. Read the material on the StopTech web site.

The OE pads are not known for problematic transfers, and if they were not squealing before, I'm kind of doubtful that is the problem. But, that doesn't mean that proper bedding will not solve it, since the current pad/rotor contact area might not yet be 100%. Usually, you can tell by looking at the rotor. You should see a totally smooth, unbroken area of contact on the rotor. This sometimes requires several bedding sessions to achieve, since you can't get these pads as hot as race pads. I've had no noise at all from the ST pads that came with my brakes, which is the same high performance street pad.

Don't do it on the freeway! That's crazy. You can usually find a industrial or business area that's empty at night. These pads are difficult to bed in my experience. They recommended 10 good stops.

I can't compare to Ferodo but I love the Stop Tech. They dust less than OEM, are very quiet, have better overall stopping power and handle light track use much, much, much better than OEM. At last weekend's HPDE, I experienced no noticeable fade or judder with the Stop Tech pads. With OEM, I was getting bad fade and almost disconcerting brake judder.

I am very happy and will only use Stop Tech pads from now on.

lol hence why I said you can't do it on the 101

I might just do it on my way to the track next time

There's a straight, 4 mile road before the track, there are sometimes cars on it, but rare (since I'm there early morning).

knock on wood, never seen a cop.

I'll find a spot :P

but why would you say the freeway is crazy? (if it was, somehow, by chance, COMPLETELY empty?)

I like the ST pads a lot

I only notice fade towards the end of the afternoon sessions (it's been 100 degress+ these past events)

initial bite isn't too great, squeak (in my case) sucks, but they're better than OEM overall

Dust wise I'm not sure...I haven't washed my car in over a month and 3 track days lol so my 220Ms look black haha

Like everyone is saying OP, find a country road that's pretty straight, none or little traffic. Accelerate to about 40~50mph, brake till about 10mph, accelerate back up to 40 or 50 and repeat for about 5 cycles. Then as the brakes start to heat, you'll smell that brake dust, bring the speed up to about 80 (don't get a ticket!) and do 5 more cycles. DON'T COME TO A STOP OR ANYWHERE YOU NEED TO STOP! Let the brakes cool with a 4 or 5 mile drive with no braking at speed.

Each manufacture of pads/disc's are different and require different run-in procedure so what I stated might not be accurate for yours. But I had alot of sqeeking going on at slow braking speed and some groun from the right/front APracing BBK I got installed and today did exactly this run-in for the second time since I installed the brakes. Their nice and quiet now, grab real good and no groun coming to a stop as I burned off some of that old transfer material on the disc. Good luck. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Only real issue is I don't have any country road near me lol
Nor is there a single straight road around here without cops

But I'll find somewhere. just need to look more
