Hi everyone,

Hoping someone can help me. I bought my BBS LM 19x11 and 19x10 about 6 months ago, and they came with TPMS sensors from BERU.

This morning I started the car, and it said TPMS malfunction. I tried resetting it but it wont reset, and says TPMS inactive.

I read the faults out from the TPMS (RDC) module, and it says that the front left wheel is not emitting a signal. I know next to nothing about TPMS (other than how to remove it completely with coding/programming, which I don't want to do). Might as well retain that functionality.

My understanding is that you can't replace the batteries in the TPM sensor, is this true? The main issue is that I'm unsure what to order as a replacement (without having the wheel dismounted etc..)

The stock ones from my 19" don't fit at all, I tried to have them swapped on when I got the BBS wheels, but the stem length is different so it was a no-go. Can anyone point in the right direction for ordering a replacement sensor for 19x10 front BBS LM's for a 2008 car?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I hate errors on my dash! Also if anyone has the right sensor, I'm willing to purchase it.

If you bought new, then you should be able to get a replacement one.

I bought them from someone who got them new from Long Tran (along with the wheels too)..

So I'm not the original owner

Called him, he said no warranty.

But he said that he can take the stock TPMS sensor portion and switch that into the TPM unit I have now somehow...

So I'm going to pick up my front left wheel from storage and take it to him and see if he can work some magic...

I wonder if I should do that to the other three? (seems like a lot of work to dismount, etc..)

Always something with the cars! Luckily the M3 is much less bitchy than my 7 series!

The sensor is dead and needs to be replaced. Use the same valve that you were using with the Beru sensor.

There is only one sensor for a 2008-2009 TPMS. The part number: 36 23 6 781 847

Thank you. Does this mean the the sensor is the same for all cars, and that the stem is what is different for alternate wheels?

What tool do I need to remove the TPMS unit from the rim itself? is it Torx?

Sensors are easy to remove. You'll see when you get the tire off.

Tires already are off.

Aright so this didn't go away as I expected...

Replaced front left (coding) sensor with the factory ones that came on my stock 19's.

Light went off for a minute, and then its back on again. This time it says TPM malfunction but doesn't pop up in the cluster randomly, bling, and say "inactive".

I read the faults out quickly and it seems I went from one fault to two fault...

Does anyone know if you can have different TPMS sensors? Like 3 BERU ones and 1 BMW one. Is there some sort of relearning process to get them synched up to the module? I tried clearly the faults but that doesn't seem to help.

I am going to read it with my other scanner and see what the faults are this time. The tire shop is telling me they have to be "relearned" - not sure what that entails but they want to charge me $120 bucks for it. I'm fine with paying them but would rather see if I can tackle it myself..

just an update to the situation...

I was getting sporadic errors for 2 days, and since then everything has been perfect. No errors and it says TPMS active.

So i guess it takes some time for the car to relearn and start reading from the sensors.
