Yes, that may speed up my purchase.

my interest is growing.

I'm hoping they go up to the F8 in a firmware update or something.

The camera has potential.

adding a pop up flash to the 5D is useless. if you're using that kind of flash with this kind of camera; you're just producing amateur work.

I personally don't have any complaints with this camera. I dont' think anyone here is blowing up billboard sized images so why complain about still have a 22MP camera. I mean seriously people have been able print huuge images before a 22MP camera existed. and its not like canon is reusing the sensor of the mk2. its a newly designed sensor. as from what is posted out there, this sensor paired with its new processor has some brilliant ISO performance.

I think the majority expected more than what was given since the mk2 made such an impact in the industry with its 1080p video capabilities. This camera gave photographers what they wanted (better ISO and better AF). I wish the price didn't break 3k but hey I guess thats just the way the story goes.

Perhaps true, but I will admit to carrying my 7D instead of my 5D MkII because I thought that I might need flash, but didn't want to carry the 580 Speedlight. I ended up shooting mostly available light and came up with this shot at ISO 6400, which I'd previously thought only the 5D2 could pull off:

very cool! I actually have only used a friend's mkII for a few weddings and my uncle's 7D so I really have limited hands on experience with both cameras. For me, I've been shooting on a canon 20D (since 2004 hahaha!) and I can only boost that thing up to ISO 800 and thats if i'm desperate (if I'm going to iso 1600 i rather just shoot on a G11 hahah!)... Even then I've seen been able to get the shots I desired but would like to have more options hehe someday... to see what cameras are capable of now, damn its pretty freaking amazing.

Sometime in the next year should prove a good time to replace a 20D. The high-ISO performance will be quickly surpased by the next model, but once you it gets good enough to shoot in the dead of night, what more do you really need. I think we're right at that point.

You've already waited a good while, so I'd wait to see what the 7D MkII has to offer and then decide between that and the 5D3 and plan on being set for 10-years.

hahha I've been shooting on a 20d for the past 6 years as well and with how cameras are performing now, I curious on what excuses will be made if someone wasn't able to get the shot they wanted. IMO the tools were out there since the 5D Mk2 and there isn't any room for excuses. I'm not saying the 5D was the answer to all things (3fps is pretty lame IMO but there has been the 7D and if you had the budget 1D Mk3)

The 20D is no slack either... I still use mine once in a while, and love that camera.

ISO 25600 on the 5D3

That's pretty impressive, even if they were processed and have some noise reduction applied to them.

I think that you can no longer evaluate cameras and lenses without processing. DPP, LR, DxO, etc. all correct for known errors in lenses and bodies.

In the film days you got what your body, lens and film gave you. You couldn't make the image sharper or correct for barrel distortion, etc.

The latest update of Canon's DPP makes adjustments for every body and it's new lenses, creating a true camera/lens/software system.

pretty impressive, but small pictures. So still hard to judge, I'd have to see the head to head comparos when they eventually happen.

Go back and look again. Click where it says "Original" to see the full, original sized image. Still pretty impressive.

One day i will remember not to over look that trick....

I'll check it out again.

I do have to say though, from what I've seen, there looks to be some good depth in the pictures.

As someone that's done a fair amount of shooting the 5D2 at ISO 6400, I'm looking forward to the improvement there and at higher levels.

One thing I noted of interest, was when someone did some comparison pix at high ISO with the 5D3 and the D800. They were really close together, but the Nikon didn't really show and advantage in detail. I would have thought that was its strength. The 7D is apparently still the champ in detail, but near as good at high ISO. I'm really looking forward to the 7D MkII.

Me too, but I'm not sure that I can get as good a deal on the 5D3.

I'm with DirectBuy and bought my 5D2 at wholesale. Unfortunately, the last time I looked, DB was only listing consumer type cameras. I'll have to investigate in a few weeks.

So they're slowly coming into stock. Who'll be the first from here to get one?
