Huper optik at STM and comfort access

Been doing A LOT of searching and reading on this subject on M3post and bimmerfest.

Seems like there have been members who've had CA issues after getting HO ceramic tint. I had HO installed in my wife's RX350 from another place in Orange County (Perfect Window Tint) because I had not known about STM. They did a great job and we have no problems with our keyless entry at all. However, I seem to have read that Huper has acknowledged an issue specifically with BMW and recommended some kind of cut in the window to help with the CA problem.

So having said all that, my inquiry is:

Who here has gotten HO installed at STM, and did it affect the range of your CA?

Many thanks in advance

I had CA issues before tint lol. So annoying. I doubt high quality tint will affect it.

Check out my thread.....

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=652417

I have an appointment next Monday with McKenna BMW for them to take a look at my comfort access system. I had my tint done at STM, and after delaying several times over the last few months, I'm finally taking it in to check out. Hopefully it's just my CA system and not the tint, but putting the comfort access problems aside, STM did a fantastic job on my install.

I will step up and warn you that Huper can potentially interfere with your comfort access system. I've done a ton of research on the subject since my CA problem started after the install. I'll be updating my thread in about 2 weeks after I get my car serviced.

Your thread was what got me nervous about the HO since both you and GOLFFRR had problems after the install. I knew from the posts GOLFFRR had it done by Han at STM, but I didn't know yours was also installed there.

The only thing that seemed more puzzling was how it affected your access only on the driver side and how it would have problems with the key even INSIDE the car. I did read a thread somewhere where the OP said only his key was problematic, but if he used his wife's key, everything worked like brand new. The thread was somewhat lost to follow up, so I was never really sure what happened in the end.

Thank you everyone for the replies so far!

Thanks for the reply everyone. so it looks like 2 are ok, but 3 had trouble.

I wonder if there's anything that they do differently (maybe sanding down the dot matrix does something?) vs other installers that do the vinyl tape or heat-gun.

I guess if the odds are still bad, I can go with the Premier Diamond Cut IR. I've heard of issues with F1's Pinnacle film also.

This will be my first BMW and I really want things to go well, since it'll be a purchase and not a lease!

how dark did you go and how was the dot matrix area? I think recall reading that you did the clearbra too. I'm thinking of doing the same - one-stop shop.

I too noticed a problem once the HO was on the car. Often my key will not be detected even from inside the car and I have to try to start it several times or put the key in the ignition. The range as well as the consistency to a huge hit with the tint.

Ouch, this hurts. anyone know where their installers went? I assume they must have stayed local. Not sure where to get clear bra done now.

Wow. I can't believe Aerotech is not doing installs either.

This thread has certainly changed directions, but I think I'll be avoiding HO for now. I'll probably have to go back and talk to Sal at Perfect Window Tint about other options, but who's around that can do as good a job at full custom clearbra as Premier and Francisco at Aerotech?

Before I knew about Premier, I was going to use Star Shield in Ontario. They had a prominent name for many years.

Damn, I can't believe Premier in SoCal is closed. I had them install the clear bra as well as their Diamond Cut IR Tint (35%) and haven't had any problems with my CA.

The clear bra on my hood is starting to get a little hazy and I was planning to bring it in to see what they can do. It seemed like they had a lot of business down here and I didn't think they would close down. That was one of the reasons why I decided to go with them.

looks like I'll be going with Ultimate Shield for the clear bra and back to Sal at Perfect Window Tint (probably going to go with Wincos).

Thanks everyone for your replies!
