BMW CCA L.A. 2-Day HPDE @ Spring Mountain, Dec. 28-29 2013

Sponsored by

Those of you who were interested in signing up for the Spring Mountain event, but had the rug pulled out because we couldn't get enough attendees signed up for the hot summer month, this event is back on the schedule and there's no turning back! We've already paid the track in full and will not be canceling regardless of the number of attendees.

This is a 2-day weekend event at the end of the year. It'll be great to bring the family to Vegas, stay the week for Christmas or New Years, and cap off the year at the track.

As far as I know, this is the FIRST TIME the Pacific Region is holding an event at Spring Mountain in well over 10 years. The owners of Spring Mountain has poured a ton of money into making this a true oasis for track junkies in the middle of the desert, a beautiful country club like setting with a world-class track expandable up to 7.1 miles! We'll be using the 3.1 mile course below:

Early registration is $399 for A+ group, $419 for CCA members, and $469 for non-CCA members. Keep in mind that Spring Mountain is a MEMBERSHIP ONLY country club, and the fee for membership is about $30,000 per year. The L.A. Chapter haven't had a DE this affordable in a long time, due to escalating cost of track rental and cost of operations, and will not likely have a track event this reasonably priced for the foreseeable future!

Sign up now, Registration is open. Sign up now and avoid the late registration fee hike.

Woh, very tempting.

Ran 3.4 mile config on Saturday w/ SV (my first time at Spring Mountain), and couldn't figure out the track. A ton of sinuous, s-curves everywhere - very confusing. Should've run 2 days... :I

Anyhow, an incredible momentum track.

I used to track over there all the time with PCA Las Vegas when I had my 996TT when I lived in Vegas (2005-2007). They didn't have the condos, bar, restaurant, etc when I was tracking...it was a lot more like Chuckwalla. I haven't been back since 2007 so I'm probably going to go to this event since I be spending the holidays out in Vegas at my dad's place.

If you like Chuckawalla and Buttonwillow, you'll like Spring Mountain. Nice momentum technical track with a few small elevation changes and best of all....few walls!

If you had been there Sunday I could have talked you through it.

There are momentum sections, but in the 3.4 mile configuration, power wins. I was out in the black group (I'm old and I like to invite people to pass me -- all three them total on Sunday vs. letting them decide when and where they want to pass -- just call me a control freak!) and the high HP corvettes/cameros would miss apexes by a mile yet just walk away when the track demanded only right foot talent.

It is exceptionally challenging to get the track right, and it rewards precision with even higher speeds/g-forces. Great track to run with all variety of corners available to try to master.

Yeah, considered staying for Sunday, but I would've had to leave at noon due to prior commitment.

Re: speed, yeah, I should've clarified that the momentum portion was all in the north-west sector of that track. In fact, I just posted my SMMR video and, in it, you can see 140mph (at least on M3 speedo) down the eastern straightaway.

Anyhow, absolutely ("exceptionally challenging to get the track right"). Look forward to future visits.

The 3.1 mile layout cuts that long straight down by a good bit and throws in some additional turns into the mix. When I was out there in 2005-2007, we ran the 3.1 mile layout as the addition to get get to the 3.4 mile layout came after 2007. My 600hp 996TT loved those long straights and gentle sweepers and it's where I put space between myself and the guy behind me. haha

Going to try to make this.
Do they have rooms we can rent on site? Or are most staying in Parhump?
Vegas is a pretty long drive... and I may not get a good night sleep in Vegas!!

The on-site condos/rooms are all private/members-only.

This past weekend, some of us stayed at the 2 casino-hotels in Pahrump. There's also a few motels (Best Western, etc) in Pahrump. And, some people rented a house. Of course, many people stayed in Vegas and made the 60 mile drive to Parhump in the morning, but if you gotta change to track tires in the morning, I'd rather stay in Pahrump and sleep that extra hour.

One of the local hotels have a special rate for those attending events at Spring Mountain so I've heard. I'm attempting to track down the info and will post/make available to attendees.

My dad lives in Summerlin (off of Charleston) on the west side so I'll be staying there and making the 40-45 drive over both days.

I'm down by the JW Marriott in Summerlin.

Going south on Ft. Apache off the Sunset Exit on 215 is the way to hook up w/160 now. Going Charleston all the way around by Red Rock is a haul... Plus no burros surprising you around the next bend!

Especially in December when there is the slight possibility of snow on mountain pass.

He's just north of Red Rock CC. So they finally connected Ft. Apache all the way down to the 160? You used to have to take Durango back when I lived in Vegas.

Leave her at some day spa either on the strip or at JW Marriott or Red Rock Casino and follow up with some shopping later, that should make her happy and give you a pass to go tracking.

For her mani/pedi at Red Rock Spa, ask for Cindy (friend of my wife).

Is it December yet?

You going out to the PCA Las Vegas event next week? I'm thinking about it but I am doing Buttonwillow this weekend so I may not be up for it. I like to track one weekend a month so that way I keep and grow the desire to hit the track.
