Replacing Windshield Lower Cowl?
Has anyone done this before? Any tips/tricks? It seems pretty straightforward, but couldn't find anything on the forum or web re: a DIY. The windshield replacement guy bent the plastic back enough so there are gaps where the rubber should seal against the windshield. I assume water getting down there is not good or is there some design aspect I am missing that will channel it to a safe location if it slips under the cowl?
I'm going to try and get him to reimburse the cost of the new cowl, but if you want something done right you need to do it yourself. Can anyone help confirm the part as well (51717161033)? I think it is this... http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Site...1033/ES129027/ and it looks to come with the rubber seal/glazing too. Any other complementary clips or parts I should consider? |

Was pretty easy from what I recall. Most difficult part is removing the wipers which I was able to do by hand with a little bit of elbow grease. Make sure you mark the position of the wipers. Most accurate way to do this is to mark the windshield. I also saw a document from BMW which specifies the wiper position.
I didn't break any clips or anything like that. There aren't any from what I remember. Good luck! |

Haven't done this part on my E90, but did have to do the same thing on the E46 when I had it. Not a big deal at all. Grease marker works well to mark the position of wipers as it doesn't wipe off accidentally but is easy to remove with some Windex and a bit of wiping.
