First mod, what to get?

It's bacically cosmetic VS performance, whichever you want to do first.

However if you ask me, I would do cosmetic changes first. You could the following all at once:
-> Color-matched front kidney grills and side gills (Matte black looks better IMHO)
-> Painted reflectors
-> Tinted Windows
-> Wheel spacers

Aftermarket wheels and lowering springs can also be bought during this time period.

Once your satisfied with the changes above and have familiarized yourself with the M3's handling and speed but want more power, go for performance next. You could do the following:
-> Intake
-> Header
-> Underdrive pulley kit
-> Exhaust
-> Tune

The mods above will definitely make you a happy //M owner.

However, if want to get serious and decided to track your car you could take it up a notch with the following mods:
-> Coilovers
-> 3.45 or 3.62 Limited Slip Differential (This lowers the stock 3.15 final drive ratio to a 3.45 or 3.62, thus increasing torque for faster accelerations).

Last but not the least, if you have extra $$$ laying around, you could go for the following performance mods:
-> Supercharger
-> Stroker kit <--- Baller Warning!

painted reflectors...got them already...they're lonely sitting there in the garage.

other than that, i wouldnt do shit to it...i think the car is great stock, as it should be....but then again, im past that stage in my life of modding...modded the last 2 cars i had and got nothing but trouble with them years down the road....rims getting bent, scratched, lowered suspension started squeaking and increased stiffness made the whole car turn into a rattle monster....

at least i bot the M because i feel that its perfect the way it is from the factory...even zcp comes slightly lowered..awesome...

i am, however, very tempted to get he akra evo exhaust....but then today, i went to the dealer to check out the car again and listened to the stock exhaust in person and it was incredible so...maybe not
