Tesla Model S

I saw a black model S today. When he saw I pulled up on the highway, he went on a spirited drive and that electric car was feisty fast. It was impressive! The only bad thing IMO was it had no rumble as he hit the accelerator...

agreed; I've seen them around my parts and the drivers all seem to drive fast! Hauling ass on the freeway and from stoplights flooring it. I get a kick out of it and thumbs up to them.

That is after tesla puts 5 car lengths on M after a red light.... By the time he needs to recharge, you are going to have to fill up your M while trying to understand what just happened.

Model S is crazy fast.....

New member here hi guys. Like BMW and love M3s. Just want to say Tesla S has jack rabbit take off but in the high end they get left in the dust so don't fear too much.

It will definitely be a viable option for me in 3 years. If they continue to expand their charging stations as they have stated; you'll be able to drive from coast to coast without worrying about running out of power.

Not very good (relative to their impressive 0-60 times). They have EV track days at Laguna Seca: http://www.plugincars.com/electric-v...ay-127646.html

I was on a freeway and he was hauling it... Went from 60 to warp speed very quickly.

Guys, the future is here. On the performance side, things will heat up. Some aftermarket guys will figure out a way to drop four 85 kWh motors over each wheel. Independent AWD and 1,300 HP/TQ equivalent in a 2,700 lb car. Alpha Omega GTR's wont stand a chance.

And the battery will be dead after a mile at full power. That's the problem. To run at full power for any significant amount of time you need more batteries and that means a lot more weight.

+1. Battery technology needs to increase exponentially for long range high performance. The Mercedes E-Drive claims a 155 mile range, but when Clarkson had the car on Top Gear, after 15 mins of hard driving, the batteries only had 40% remaining.

Totally agree. The battery and charging technology is not here yet.

Tesla S is great as a DD if you have a garage to charge your car at night. Otherwise totally useless. Being in San Francisco, I see tons of Tesla S every day. In some areas in the city, they greatly outnumber the German luxury cars. In the end, it is just a wealthy individual's play thing.

Battery tech not here yet... Is key. I believe we are in the very early stages of the electric powered vehicles.

It is so ridiculous to make that comparison.

The EPA estimates the M3 gets what, 20MPG on the highway? Well if you are driving the car hard at the track, would you expect to get even close to that?

Yup. I've had a Nissan Leaf pull a car on me from a stop light for the first few seconds. I didn't launch or accelerate past 40, but instant torque is definitely interesting from a stop.

I can usually do three 20-25 minute sessions on the track on a full tank of gas. Not sure an EV can even finish 1 of those sessions at full power.

I'm not sure a model S would see the much track time. You're more likely to come across them from a stop light where it'll have one gear with that torque leave an M3 behind or from the freeway where it'll leave you behind as the DCT engages from 7th to 4th gear.
