Valve Cover Gasket

Im starting to see a small leak on the passenger side valve cover gasket. Particularly on the 2 visible bolts beside the coolant reservoir. I've replaced numerous VCGs on many BMWs and this will be the first time with the S65 engine.

Anything i should know out of the normal? Im almost thinking to re torque the bolts for now and see how it goes but at the same time i work for BMW and i get the parts for dirt cheap.

I read somewhere that this leak is pretty common with the S65 especially on the passenger side of the engine.

Any input will be appreciated.

If those bolts have rubber grommets, try just replacing those first. They should be cheap.

Hi Belgium, still can't see the freaking leak on these pictures! Maybe I have a flood under the bonnet I've never spotted...

Nik C'mon man .
1- Look at the oil fill cap
2- 10 cm below you can see the 2 bolts on the sealing of the valve cover
These are the middle and right bolt
3- Now you need to look at the bolt that you cannot see in the left corner.
2 cm below in the left corner bolt that you cannot see , you can see a darker spot under the valve cover in the most left corner (left "corner" valve bolt) =>That's the oil leak .
So you can see the 2 bolts on the left side valve cover sealing , but there is also a bolt on the left side corner on the left side valve cover .
It's just under that bolt in the corner .
Let me know if you can see it ?

I appreciate the help guys. I decided to just get a couple of the bolts with the rubber grommets, and torque them down to spec. My oil filler cap is fine.

Does anyone know the torque specs for the bolts?

Seems like this is a very common issue for the s65's, particularly on that side of the engine. That photo you sent me belgium looks exactly the same with mine.

I'd be surprised if they were more than 10 ft-lb. On the S62, we put some high temp sealant, like Drei Bond 1209. You'll see how the oil can seep out through within the bolt itself.

Also, pick up some UV dye from amazon and leave it in there, it will be far easier to pinpoint the seep location.
