Why do you have an M3 and what you like best about it?

I will only list the first three points ....

First and foremost I like the security that is the power under the hood. One can say I see my car as a safety net ... that is to say if there is danger on the horizon my ///M will quickly do it's best to get me out of it. I say this since once some years ago when I overtook a 18 wheeler, he swayed into my lane and surely would have pushed me over the cliff for he was asleep. I knew this since I put the peddle to the metal and leaned on the horn so I got out off his way as he cached himself after dosing off, his truck swaying side to side as I watched him in my rear view mirror.

Second This is my second ///M3 and my sixth BMW, I naturally have a soft spot for the car simply the way it handles and the way you feel the road under you as you drive it. In my book when it comes to a car 4 seater there is nothing better then the ///M.

Third I simply love to shift thru the gears and listen with the slightly open windows to the rev matching as I shift up or down and when it hits just right I know there is a smile on my face.

There are many other points ... like the stretch of road near by our place that twists and turns and I take it whenever I can even thou it is a slight detour when I go down town. The stretch of road gives me for a brief moment that twisted country road feeling ... you know what I mean.

In my book when it comes to a car, a 4 seater there is nothing better then the ///M.

What made you get it and what do you like most about it? and what are three of the first things that come to mind?

Aside from the reasons eloquently stated by the OP, I like that there's no compelling reason to accept a street racing challenge anymore. Now if/when I drive fast it's strictly for my driving pleasure and enjoyment. As much as I loved my 328i, I knew it was time for a change when one day a 2011 VW Golf GTI gave me ALL I COULD HANDLE on an isolated stretch of road. Challenges became an everyday occurrence even though I didn't accept many. I think I was challeged by a Dodge Neon once. The M3 is not fastest or best at anything but it has quenched a thirst I had to constantly prove a cars capabilities. Most people know what an "M" is and respect it. The rest, f**k 'em.

For me, it was the NA high-revving V8 engine coupled with the exterior styling; I'm a big fan of the E90 exterior but felt it would look so much more agressive with the E92 front clip. Those were my two main reasons for opting for an M3 in it's sedan variant.

Agreed. Most fun with my pants on. I love that even after the roughest or hardest days, can turn on the car, head out, and after 20 minutes Ive forgotten all troubles and there's a huge smile on my face. Best therapy ever

I needed something that:
1. Would be enjoyable on the track and on back roads
2. Would be acceptable in a professional/conservative work environment, yet not look old/boring
3. Civilized at low speeds, but with plenty of power on tap
4. Comfortable enough for my better half, yet firm enough for the twisty bits

The car isn't the best at any one thing (i.e. there are better track cars, more comfortable cruisers, etc.), but it succeeds in doing so many things very well.

Except, of course, for getting good gas mileage

1. S65 and the sensation of your heart speeding up as you approach 8300 rpm
2. Steering, sharp, not super sharp, but sharp enough. Sport-Servotronic helps.
3. Chassis set up
4. style, seriously, this looks a lot better than the C63 and ISF
5. All this in a 4 door with fold down rear seats.

i then finished highschool, got a job, and couldn't afford one....finished college, got a job, and STILL could not afford one...quit my job, started my own business, and FINALLY could afford one...it was a dream come true for me really...im still looking to buy that e36 for sentimental reasons.

I just have the urge of driving fast - need for speed. I simply can't help it. I love performance driving and comfort in a car is secondary for me. That is the reason I like sports cars. I also happen to love bimmers, my 2011 M3 is my third BMW out of 4 cars that I purchased to date. If I had the unlimited budget, I would have bought a 911: GT3RS or Turbo S. Boxer and Cayman just wont cut it for me. That being said, I am very happy with my M3, every time I look at it, I have a grin on my face like this

The car (sports car in descries) with a bit of everything. Even the wife can feel comfortable in the nice sports seats that hug her firmly while you smile

As long as you do it (drive fast) when the time and situation is right ... a very good friend of mine lost his life at a tender age of 28. Never underestimate the power you have at your disposal under the hood/power dome. It only takes a fraction of a second (as you well know) and it may be too late.

Safe Trails always ...

Cheers,

Rolf-Dieter

I got this car as my rolling sin-bin but it just doesn't have the space needed. Too bad most people call it a 'poor man's racecar' because it is a blast to drive fast.

I have an M3 because it's something I wanted for a long time. Been driving the same car for 8 years and running. Honestly, I've driven very few cars in my life time. MB, Porsche, Lexus, Audi, Acura, Cadillac, other BMWs, e46 M3 are a few. I would be just as happy in any one of those cars, BUT M3 is THE car for me for it's heritage, performance, refinement, and it's a manual!!! I remember reading about comparisons of MB C32 AMG, Audi S4, and M3 going back to 2003. I bought the Car and Driver issue with this article(Audi came in 1st, M3 2nd). I dreamed of driving the M3 back then and now it's a reality. It's a different model, but M3 just keeps getting better.

What do I like best about it? The engine sound!

I'm taking delivery of mine next week (the wait is killing me) however your 4 reasons are the same reason I choice to go with the M3 over everything else.

Well put

Couldn't have said it any better.

Show me another car that can take the kids (4) to School and then go to the Track.
