Jimmy/Roman,
Thanks for the prompt and clear responses. This is why I love these forums.

I have the same combo on my car and love it.

The cold start with the Evo is just too loud. With the cold start active on my car for the couple days I had it before the tune, I was like omg wtf have I done to this car...

The ESS tune completes this mod and makes the car really come alive, a total must IMO.

You should have Alexs test the car and scan it for codes. What you describe I have never seen before.

ok, ill pay to investigate why the problem is there. if there are no codes that it's throwing, then what?

sounds like there's more than 1 person that's experienced this.

Aleks won't charge you to do a diagnostic. If your car is behaving as you described you most likely have an issue that will have thrown a code.

in 4th, if i'm cruising in this range and hit WOT, the car judders and stutters forever before finally picking up speed. if i use moderate throttle, it gets through fine.

in 2nd and 3rd, it totally eats sh*t and violently judders it's way through at WOT, but it at least gets through.

it's annoying to me that if i'm in 4th and there's an emergency, that slamming on the gas will actually result in the engine choking up rather than picking up speed.

i've voiced this issue in the past and nobody seems to care.
I am seriously considering the Evo setup. I already have the ESS tune, will only need the upgrade specific for the Evo. I can live with the so called low rpm dip (which I thought the tune took care of that), but what you describe appears to be a more serious issue. Please let us know of any new developments and if this issue gets resolved. Hope it works out for you.

Today, I received my ESS Tune Direct Flash, which I ordered from JL Platte. I was under the impression we ordered the E-flash but received the Direct Flash instead. I contacted Roman @ ESS and he was willing to exchange the order. I decided to keep the Direct Flash because I don't have any PC to make E-Flash work to its full potential. Throughout the process, Roman has been VERY helpful and patient. The direct flash process did take a while to pull the data from my ECU (approx. 1.5 hrs), but I'm sure it will be well worth it. I'm now waiting for ESS to send me the tuned file. Hands down to ESS service!

Awesome, the E flash is def A LOT faster but sounds like you were able to accomplish the same process with the direct flash unit. Can't wait to read your review and see how our views compare Enjoy safely

Yes, ESS service is awesome. And Roman appears to be like a multitasking superhuman or something, and on top of that very patient with costumers. You will love the tune. Enjoy!!!

I agree. So far, NO COLD start and the car hums. The throttle seems a lot smoother. Hopefully, it's dry today for me to get on it!

Nice! Definitely looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the tune! That's a fast turn around time.

I got to finally really wine my car out on the HWY from my house to LTBMW meet and wow the car just pulls. It also accelerates and shifts a lot smoother then stock IMO> I am really satisfied with the Akra Evo + ESS Tune wish I would have done this sooner.

The road finally dried up for 2 hrs for me to try out the new ESS tune + Akra Evo. Man, this thing pulls HARD on all 1st-3rd. I noticed right around 4000 rpm, the engine roars! Almost like how VTEC works on Honda. I eliminated the loud cold start; I didn't have the CEL light before doing the tune because I just installed the Akra Evo about 200 miles ago; the throttle response feels a lot more refined and tuned; and the impeccable service I received from Roman made it all worth it. Definitely, a mod I highly suggest doing. It really brought the v8 alive. Thanks to Roman at ESS and Johnny at JL Platte for making the whole transition worth it! Time to wait for more dry days........
