Michelin Pilot Super Sport vs Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta

I just got a new set of rims for my car and I'm wondering if I should get the new Michelin pilot super sports or the vredestein ultrac sessanta's? I heard the vredesteins are an excellent tire, even read the thread on here that they're a little better than the ps2's. Has anyone had the pleasure of having both tires? Also, the price on the vredesteins I got was $800 flat mounted and balanced in 245/35/19 for the front and 275/30/19 for the rear. Oh yeah, my car is an E46 M3, I don't get that much response on the E46 forums..... lol

I doubt many would have experience with both. However, expect that the Vreds are very comparable to the PS2 and the PSS is a noticeable improvement. The latest Tire Rack test put the PSS well above the competition. Although the Vreds were not included, I would be very surprised if the result wasn't the same. Having said that, the Vreds might be a very good price/performance compromise. For $800, it would be hard to go wrong with the Vreds but if money was no object I would go PSS simply based on how much better the PSS compared to the PS2 and the Tire Rack comparison test.

For street driving, either will do fine. Hell, they'll both do fine for HPDE, but the PSS are probably the best overall tire out now. It's just up to you if they're worth the extra money.
PS. I've got the Vreds and have been happy with them for around town and HPDE's.

I'd recommend Conti 5P. Best tyre I've ever owned, better than PS2 Cup / Vred / various Conti SuperContacts / etc. Only other tyre I'd consider even trying at the moment is the Pirelli Trofeo.

General consensus is that the Vreds are good bang for the buck. I haven't tested them b/c I do not get them, but most reviews are positive.

The PSS is almost certainly a better tire. gthal's logic further up the thread is pretty much the way I see it as well.

So if you want the best, PSS. If you are looking for a good tire and trying to fit a certain budget, the Vredestein can be a good solution.

I was going to buy the Vreds, but after shipping and borkerage to canada (shipping was double what tirerack charges) I decided on the Conti DW as the savings was just over $100.

I've had the Vreds for about 15 months and I'd rate it right there with the Ps2's. I feel it never had as good a traction as the Ps2's but I have no regrets, specially with the value factor. Hope that helps.

Vreds are not even in the same class of tires as PS2/PSS... To be blunt, they are crap (at least for an M3).

Vreds are a good bang for the buck but are not in the PS2 class. To be honest, the Contis are not even as good and I bet they are still better than Vreds.

My experience is the EXACT opposite!! I have had PS2 for years (for M cars...E36 M3, E39 M5, E90 M3 & E92 M3, non M E60 545), currently on second set of Vreds on the E90....there is NO doubt they are better than PS2's.

Mine have lasted longer, handled HPDE's so much better than PS2 it's not even funny and have been superior in the wet!

Oh did I mention they are a better value.

But to each his own.....

I had contis with my new m3, then switched to PS2's, and I will definitely go back to the contis when it's time to change up. They were just much more predictable at the limit.

I was a long time user of PS2's on both my E36 M3 and E46 M3. Trying to save some cash I decided to give the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta a chance about 3 years ago and haven't looked back. I'm pretty picky about everything and the performance and wear is as good if not better than the PS2's in my opinion. I've ran them in 17", 18", and 19" on both the E36 and E46.

I have 20" Nitto Invos on my E90 M3 right now but only because they were on it when I purchase it. Going with Vredestein's on it when its time for some new rubber.
