An aftermarket intake is just some tubing with a different filter. The tubing isn't going to make any difference as long it retains the proper position of the MAF sensor and/or crankcase ventilation tube if applicable. The overall length of the intake path on the M3 is fairly short so all these claims of so-called "bigger" or "smoother" tubes amounts to nothing. You can get the same result by just popping in an aftermarket filter. In fact if you are so concerned, go on K&N's website and it specifically states that the filter is 50 state emissions legal and will not void your warranty. It'll be good for a few hp and cost $65. Of course it won't look as pretty as the 10 inches of carbon fiber of your $1000 Dinan intake that you get to see all those times that you put your hood up.

The Dinan comment on the intake is probably addressing some requirement from the communist state called California...I kid about the communist comment

It has nothing to do with California, Germany, Russia, Tea Party or the Moon. Because it has nothing to do with emissions.

Dinans disclaimer? Then its incorrect. edit: I just looked at the Dinan website, and the disclaimer for air filter is no longer there. Only x-pipe has a disclaimer.http://www.dinancars.com/shop/R660-0...M3.aspx#page=1

Probably correct. Isn't the filter covered by a big black plastic cover anyway? The only give away is the "D" that is embossed on the tube.
BTW...I was just havin' a little fun with my favorite Southpark episode. Not meant to hurt anyone's feelings.

Have you driven your car over 4500 rpm yet? If so, what are your comments on your mods now that you have gotten into the power band?

Michael. See my response from Dinan in post 24. I'm going ahead with an intake, software and exhaust. Might do them in stages to see if I can perceive any differences from each. How's yours holding up? Past 1200mi yet?

I think the ESS VT535 appears to be a good value. 460 rwhp on 91 for $8500. More with mods. I probably would not buy a titanium exhaust for $5000 to make 25 rwhp, though I might buy a stainless exhaust for half that or less. I am watching the Vishnu meth kit development since these high compression motors seem to make the best power when fed the highest octane.

The intake says "Race Only" because it is not C.A.R.B. approved. Not a big deal you would still pass smog and should have no problem passing an inspection as well.

I have the same Dinan Upgrades
Hey M Ryder and anyone else with these Dinan upgrades.
I have these exact 4 Dinan upgrades. Dinan Exhaust, Dinan Carbon Fiber Intake, Dinan Performance Software, Dinan Pulley Kit, How do you feel it compares to a stock M3. I really feel it is a different car in how it accelerates in a subtle way. Does it feel like an additional 45 HP? Look forward to your response |

Yes I am past 1200 and did the 4 Dinan Mods. It just feels and sounds great. I think in the end the Free flow Dinan Mod is the same as a K/N filter but I wanted to stay with the Dinan mods for warranty purposes. |
